Track gradient question

For the Trainz route I've been working on, going from a lower elevation to a higher, I can't keep the track gradient percentage under about 2.5 % from climbing up a couple tough hills. This a route that's been around since the mid 1800's. A track worker for this section told me that the highest grade is between 1.3 and 1.8% in real life.
Is the Trainz gradient measurement accurate , or how would you try and resolve this ?

As a test lay 77 grid squares of track and raise one end by 10m (1 in 77). Now check the gradient trainz is showing it will show 1.3.

1.3% = 77 grid squares and 10m high
1.8% = 56 grid squares and 10m high

I came up with 1.5% for the 77 squares
and ............ 1.7% for the 56 squares.

Close, but not quite the same.

Also, track spends seem to bend in the Z-axis as well as X and Y between spline points. See if using the Straighten Spline tool makes a difference -- and report!

Yes I did use the straighten spline tool when doing the gradient test. Thanks for the suggestion.
