Hi All

Trainzproroutes is taking a poll, to show interrest.

We are considering totally revamping the Proto Clinchfield to 2010 Native mode standards.

This would include a new map generated to 5m and would use the new Speed trees with seasonal changes capability. Also all the tipples, stations, buildings, bridges and tunnels will be custom made. All motive power and hopper cars will be updated also.

Please chime in and give us a post of your interest.

Thanks for all your support:) :) :)

YES!

(Except for speedtrees!)

Since your starting over...

 Can you use a 1/3rd arcsec terrain map? The resolution compaired to what your using is a tremendous difference!

What does this have to do with anything? And no, I don't want it 1/3 the size. I love how big it is.

I think you've miss-read Backyard's post Jadebullet :)

1/3 arc sec is the 'measurement' for how detailed the DEM is. In this case, it is 10m resolution (a known height for a point every 10m), and as such will give a much more detailed map than, say, 30m DEM's would (Australia currently has, at best, 30m resolution DEM's from memory).

For the people in Rio Linda....

 Yes, the previous map used about a 3-arcsec SRTM downloaded map, with vectors applied in a 3d program. The terrain elevation was correct, but the vertical slopes were smoothed out diagonally.

We now have a much better selection of maps, I recommend the 1/3rd arcsec map in GEOTiff format(for use in TransDEM).

I created a map of the Interstate Railroad, all the way down to Miller Yard, with a TOPO overlaid directly on the baseboards. You can almost lay track right on the baseboard without track charts(but I have them too).

Yes please but isnt this a huge task virtually starting from scratch again?
The TPR hosted maps and content have always been superb
Thanks guys

Yes, It is a big undertaking, but with the right content creators it makes it alot easier to do. I will be using techniques learned from trial and error on the 2004 version. So things hopefully will be spead up.

As for the Map. I will look into 1/3 arc. But at the time of doing the 2004 ver. They data wasn't available for all of the route. Yes, 1/3 arc would be great, especially in the "Breaks" area.

Backyard,

If you have access to 1/3 arc data, it would be greatly appreciated for a link and info.

Thanks

Even longer...?

 No doubt about it, I love the Proto Clinch Elkhorn Extension route!

I can't run it without at least 5-trains:
  • A NS coal train that runs continuously between the Portal NW St. Paul loaded to Portal NWBoody & returns empty.
  • An NS local stationed at St. Paul Lumber and runs light to the NW Boody yard, couples to 30 NS-ballast cars & waits for the NS coal train. He will go to Castle, run around the train & work the quarry
  • A set of light power leaves Dante for the CSX Boody Yard for 30 CSX ballast cars, going to Portal Miller.
  • A CSX coal train usually leaves Dante ahead of the light engines for Portal Miller.
  • A Northbound leaves with 60-mtys from Dante Yard to switch Trammel, Roaring Fork, Honey Branch, Nora or McClure & returns to Dante or goes to Portal Shelby.
  • And then they return to wherever I wish!
I occasionally run the Fallen Flags on these runs, obviously...

Anyway...
And...
So...

Are you going to continue at least to the NC State Line? I long for the connections at Copper Creek, VA & Frisco, TN, as well as a dedicated yard at Erwin...?

The Plan is to remake the Elkhorn Extension and then continue south after it has been released (This was going to be done for 2004 and I have part of it finished). This will give the content creatures time to create the next content.

Just for the Elkhorn Extension alone there are over 20 bridges, 20+ tipples, 3 Stations, Yard buildings and Churches that need to be custom created. And you have to remember we want to do this for native mode so it has more detail.

I currently have the map data (All 1/3 arc sec. data set) and have purchased the upgrade to TransDEM Trainz Edition. (Thanks Roland) Since I all ready have the vector data from 2004 it will not take to long to get the track and grade down. I have all the original track charts, and I will be using actual elevation data do the grade.

I still have to get 2010 myself. My birthday is Sunday, and I hope to get it then. Please bear with me and the team. We will give you updates as we are building.

World Builders Edition...

 I'm not sure TS2010 has route building capabilities, maybe it does.

You will love the new drag & drop custom menu in Surveyor(Ctrl+Shift+P).

Just drag the item from below the listing in the tool menus to the custom menu & you'll not only have that item, but the tool menu will open to that location for other related assets(like signals).

Be careful at the north end of Dante Yard, I had a lot of trouble with trains stalling northbound-loaded. The maze of switches can be aligned by using a single track through the junctions, set to the correct grade(1.92%ave.), then place spine points on it where the junction spline points are, then set the elevation for the junction by using the corresponding elevation on the single track guide.

Also, you can layout curves & tangent with less spline points, by removing the gradient & manipulating the track until it looks right from overhead, then set the elevation(H).

By the way, there is a huge flood loader up the Neece Creek Spur off the Nora Branch...

Thanks for using the 1/3rd arcsec terrain, I had made all my routes on the 3-arcsec maps, now I want to replace all the terrain, but I'm way far along on my principal map!

Pardon me for my suggestions please, don't let that slow you down for one minute!

I also acknowledge that this project will run into next year, but take your time, I can wait!

Waiting...:hehe:
