To be up-to-date

I have been a 'Trainzer' since the original prog. but seemed to slow down in 2010...............
Despite the regular updates, I have lost the place with what is happening. If I wanted to be
up-to-date, should I upgrade from 2010, and how would I do that............or should I bite the
bullet and do a total upgrade. What should I upgrade to etc.
With a bit of advice I am sure I can appreciate what appears to be an unbelievable prog.

Cheers,

Ian.;)

Thanks for that Pware - system is certainly 64 bit but no idea what the support of DX11 means. I suppose one
just goes for the latest version and works it from there. What is the most up-to-date version that I can go for?.
Cheers,
Ian.

TS12 will (should) run on any system that supports TS2009. Check that your graphics card meets the minimum spec in the link I posted. If it does then DX11 support is already present in your system and, provided you meet the other minimum specs, then T:ANE will also run.

However, there is a huge difference in performance in T:ANE between the minimum and recommended specs.

Sadly,
I am very quickly reminded why I opted out of this forum - a simple request, 'how do I bring myself up-to date.
102 views and only 3 responses - one of which was mine. Only pware responded................
I was genuinely trying to find out what was the best route to be current.

I will see if I can help on that front (as can be seen I'm usually very busy both on and off Trainz).

In order to be able to run T:ANE, the graphics card must support at least DirectX 11. If you can state which graphics card you currently have then it can be checked as to whether it supports DirectX 11.

The other information that can help as well is how much memory the system has and how fast the processor is.

Thanks Shane, any help is much appreciated - I would just like to experience
the maximum effect of a much advanced programme. How wonderful is it to
enjoy the great efforts that have been made to make this such a super
prog. Couldn't some of the 102 viewers just say what I should be looking at.
My problem is, that I have no idea which prog. I should buy. The regular updates
from Auran, just make it that bit more difficult.(in my opinion).
Thanks for your response.........
Perhaps, running Trainz on a non internet computer compounds the issue - I will have to check out the
video card and get back to you - cheers......
Ian.

You are not being ignored. It is just that your question has been asked and answered many times on the forum

You should move up to T:ane, it is an excellent version but to experience it in full requires a top level machine. People can tell you precisely what you would require, but it is a balance between what you expect from T:ane and what you can afford to buy. I list the specification of my T:ane machine below, it runs T:ane well but it is definitely not the ideal specification. However, use it as a guide, look up the specifications of each component and aim for the best compromise between cost and performance. List your final specification on the forum and you will have many willing to advise you on your choices.

If you decide to stop at TS12 which is a good version, you must take into account that it is no longer supported, meaning that there will never be any updates or improvements.

Whichever you decide to buy, after you have sorted out the hardware cost question, get the downloadable version from N3V which should be the then current version. After that, updates are very simple and are becoming almost automatic.

Like you, I have a long relation with Trainz, the addiction had kept me involved since 2001.

Hi, could be most of the people viewing were not registered forum members and couldn't post if they wanted to! get a lot of casual viewers who don't sign in according to the stats.

The crunch factor with TANE is the DX11 graphics card as it won't work without one, TS12 is a bit more tolerant as it only needs DX9.
TANE is also a 64 bit program so needs a 64 bit OS, TS12 is still only 32bit so will run on either 32 or 64 bit PC's

If as suggested you post your system specs we can work out from there what's possible or what maybe needs upgrading.
Shane's our resident expert on most things relating to Trainz so what he says is usually spot on ;o)

Updating to TS12 would be the simplest (and cheapest) option but I don't know if you can still buy TS12 or where you could get it. It is possible that N3V support for TS12 may have already expired.

Other than that, T:ANE is by far the better option but it may require a hardware upgrade. In my case I had to buy a new computer because my TS12 computer was 32 bit.

I also have a laptop which does not have a graphics card that meets the minimum specs (but it does run DX11). As a result on my laptop I have to turn off shadows, reduce the scenery drawing distance and a few other graphics options so T:ANE works, just not as well as it does on my desktop.

This is where you will notice the difference between meeting the minimum specs and exceeding them. At the minimum specs,T:ANE is very similar to TS12 but with extra features. At the recommended specs or better, T:ANE blows TS12 away.

Thanks to you all - sound advice.. I now have a starting point and a foothold. I'm away to check-out computer specs. but suspect it may be unable to support the current
prog. At least I can investigate and make descisions.
Thanks once again..

Cheers,

Ian.
