All right Steam Guys....

come to think of it, i think I've seen photos on Railpictures.net of LS&I RS-3s sitting on the Dead River Branch...I know i've seen them running under the ore dock.

BTW, this is actually in Marquette Right? I've seen enough old shots of the place to kinda sorta know where i am (in the 1950's probably...:o it's the whole steam guy thing) but i'm having trouble transfering the track plan to my mental image (bearing in mind mine's probably all wrong anyway). I think a trip around google earth is in order.

Just saying, this route looks killer. If it's in a future version of trainz, I'd definitely buy it just to run this. though it needs about a dozen more 2-8-0s.:p

It's taken me 3 days but I finally have the DSS&A North & South Main into Negaunee from Ishpeming....still have a bunch more to do in Ishpeming but needed these mains in first.

But the Questions are what roundhouses do you use, what coaling stations do you use, and what water towers do you use? Name and KUID please.

As you can see I have started in on...

Skinning up the Auran default Tside Turntable USA Kuid:-1:100568, Unless you have something better....I'll probably do up 4 versions of this in brick and wood....also update the track. Like no ties in the roundhouse.

In the meantime, back in Ishpeming....

Laying down the tracks as they were is for sure gonna take care of all them goofy road intersections...wipe them out completely. Almost done.

In fact don't look now...it's GONE!

Got my United States Railroad Atlas in 1946, War Years...track is there, town has been removed.

This is a big part of the Dem if you want some rail to run on, because none of it is there today, and that' left a ton of modeling to do for what? You want to see what it looks like now...take a picture.

This is a Trainz Game....

Between Ishpeming & Negaunee Looking East.

Track ownership Left to Right.

LS&I far left to Negaunee Branch North

DSS&A comming off their Ishpeming Yard....2 tracks down to one..The North Main.

LS&I's & DSS&A transfer Yard Center....3 tracks down to one LS&I from Neguanee South Branch

C&NW Main Second in from Right goes through the Lumber Yard and the center of Ishpeming, MI

Far right DSS&A South Main...

Next stop Iron Street Junction Downtown Neguanee, MI where all this mess comes together one more time and thank the Lucky Stars wipes out half the town.

BTW...none of that track is absolute level...every track point is on it's own height....hand laid and tiped into place.

It seems like you have this well in hand, but since you asked, I'll post anyway.

For smaller stuff, i use Bendorsey's STD_GA roundhouse series (KUID2:210518:142/3X:2 ex: 2:210518:1427:2) they're small, between 3 and 7 stalls, good for shortlines and country engine terminals.

for big engine terminals, I either use Vulcan's Santa Fe 120ft turntable (KUID2: 60238:28004:2, it's actually a whole turntable-roundhouse combo) or the CNR Roundhouse (Stratford) by Tlanders (KUID2: 87145:28056:1). His engine terminal stuff (sand house, ash pit, coaling tower, etc) are also great for the job. just search his username.

for water tanks, you're kinda on your own. the best i've been able to come up with is putting Tlander's CNR water tank somewhere in the scene, adding a couple non-operating water plugs, and laying a TPR engine track underneath them to make them LARS-operable. There's also some good coaling towers by Bendorsey if you look (eg 400 ton coaling tower KUID2: 210518:7823:2, there's others but the DLS doesn't want to cooperate).

Note, everything but the water tanks operate and will fill tenders, though you're not going to find a standard gauge engine that will fill with sand (nor a sanding tower to fill it) or an engine that will interact with tlander's ash pits.

That is really helpful.

I'm gonna book mark that post until i get some of those assets on the board.

FWIW looking SE from the LS&I Roundhouse in Ishpeming, MI...there's about 10' in elevation between the Roundhouse the LS&I tracks next door and another 10' up and you have the DSS&A's Ishpeming Yard.

Line of Sight View...

they're on TPR, if i remember correctly. hope that helps. look under the diesel sub-section in the Locomotive section.

It fit's like a glove, when you know where they should be...

Four Mains heading around the bend to blow up Neguanee @ Iron Street Junction.

High line inside track LS&I South Branch & the DSS&A North Main outside.

Low line C&NW Main inside, DSS&A South Main outside..

The other side of the Hill center, the DSS&A has a crossover from Iron Street Junction Neqaunee, MI.

It gets Trainz nasty up and around that hill center. ie all 5 Mains come together and then branch off...remember the LS&I North Branch is on the other side of those hills.

BTW & FWIW...the Tracey Mine....

Will go back in....during the War Years and up until the 60's the Mine operated.

I had said before I was going to NOT put it in. But since it's existence during that period lead to the C&NW & LS&I trackage being relocated to where it is today going into Palmer, MI. It will be there. You'll see it when I show it.

Have you tried some of Bendorsey's roundhouses?

Cheers
Stevo

They're good, but the turntables (the actual bridge assembly) want to hang about a half a meter or more below the rails they're supposed to be supporting. that's why i try to stay away from them (mostly because I haven't figured out how to fix them yet...still tinkering though, or I will be).

PS: There are some working water tanks on the DLS, by pencil42, but they're more for the back country/shortline terminus kinda deal. For somewhere big like Ishpeming or Marquette you'd be best to go with the first idea. A couple of good examples are YVRR Bagby watertank (KUID2: 124060:28047:2)
and the straightly named "Watertank" (KUID2: 124060:28046:2). sorry, I'd have added that earlier but I just thought of it.

CNR the Creator of those GP9's was ahead of his time.

i found those GP9s on TPR they are epic now if i can learn how to do arn on em

You figure out how to ARN them I've got a string of 5 CN GP9's and some SOO's from that guy I'd like to do. Keep me posted. For "free models" that guy made highly detailed stuff if you don't believe me look at the CN Trucks.

The thing I like the best about all of them is they look used & abused.
