The wrong Direction

Hello people.
I have a problem with my trains going the wrong way.
I have a simple oval track with one station using a trackmarker for stopping the train in the right place.
My instructions to driver are; 1. Drive to trackmark station wait 30 sec
2. Drive via trackmark 1
3. Drive to trackmark station wait 30 sec Repeat. When the train reaches the via 1 trackmark it comes to a halt and changes direction to go back to the station the same way it came from. I have tried moving the trackmark many times and also used direction markers to move it in the right direction but to no avail.
I have used the above method on other layouts and have had no problems until now.
I would be most greatful if anybody could suggest a solution to this problem. Thank you.

Hi
AI drivers ALWAYS choose the shortest distance to get from A to B.
Try adding a "trackmark b" between "trackmark A" and the station.

might help:)

cheers

You have not given the AI clear instructions
you would need min 2 track marks

If the train leaves the starting point and arrives at mark 1 and the next mark(you station) is closer by going backwards that is what it will do

there are 3 main rules for the AI to follow

1 Always take the shortest way to the next point unless told otherwise :hehe:
2 Always take the left diversion unless told otherwise
3 Do the best you can to upset the operators intentions :'( :udrool:

Are you familiar with the directional and priority track markers? They should be able to help some.
Directional won't help, I suspect, if you want to be able to traverse that section of track in both directions under AI.
Priority markers can help. They can set priority to either 1, 2 or 3. All trains have a default of 2. Set the section of track where you don't want the train to go to either 1 or 3 and the track wil apear two be twice as long, or so I have been told.

It will still go to the trackmark and back the same way (even if it backs out to the trackmark due to 'shorter distance').

You'll need two trackmarks. It's the easiest way.

Thank you for your ideas. I have tried two trackmarks as suggested but even if the second one is two thirds around the track it still wants to stop and go backwards. This bythe way is tr2004. I have build many tracks using just one trackmark and the train never stops, just carries on as instructed so i cant understand why this is happening now. I also use tr2006 and that has had no problems either using this method. Will have to think of something else!

Anyway thanks for trying to help me on this.

Check that the track is all connected and any levers are placed correct. Any break in the path will result in the train only seeing the reverse route to its destination. Also have you any signals as this might be a cause?

Did you also tell the driver to go to both trackmarks? Quite an important point :p

Thank you for your ideas again. There are no signals on the track and no points or other track joining this one. Imagine the station as 12 on a clock and my 2 trackmarks at 6 and 9. Well when it stops at nine it takes the longer route back to the station not the shortest route as people have said the A1 goes the shortest. Will keep trying anyway

Hi
I'm convinced you have a broken track between the second mark (at 9 o clock and the station)
as an experiment, place a loco between the two marks, then deliberatley (I know its spelt wrongly:hehe: ) break the track between the station and the first mark. you will have to break the track before placing the loco.
tell the driver to go to the station, he cant go backwards so he has to go the way you want.
if he cant you will get a message 'unable to plot route ' or something like that.

I find this is the best way to troubleshoot problems like this, remove all alternatives and force the AI to go where you want.

hope this helps
cheers

Your " Simple oval track " could be the problem.
Trainz has a habit at times of defying logic on simple round ( or oval ) tracks with no signals or junctions.
Place a few signals and create a junction or two for branch lines.
The advice on track markers should then work OK.

hope this works

Hi Errol
Long time no see.  hows the cats.

you have a point.
the only thing predictable about the A.I. is it's unpredictability :hehe:

Thank you for your help on this topic. I have finally solved the problem thanks to your ideas. My simple oval track did have another track joining it and this i assume was wrong as when i removed it the train went as instructed just using the one trackmark as id origioniy used. I also added some signals but dont think this was of any use for solving the problem.
Thanks a lot cathouse and ejlynch
