Some days back I commented on another dissapointed Trainz 06 users post, pointing to alternatives for the DLS.

Controvercy and prejudice immidiately followed, I received Private Messages and eMail from some rightfully concerned Trainzers, all of them (but one who could not express himself without swearing and personal insult) conveying their opinions in good manner.

Their issue, illegal hosting and piracy.

I did send some links to a handfull of Trainz users, not one of them reported that they found anything considered illegal or pirate.

There are many huge Routes with 4,5,6,700 Mb of assets, most of it not available on the DLS, some of my favourites, Astorga Benavente, De San Martin a Millanes, Montes Espinosa, Polskie Koleje Waskotorowe, Puerto de Bejar, Robla Cistiena and World War II. Some of these Routes and many others have Locomotives and Rolling Stock created espesially for them, not available on the DLS.

On a current Thread regarding online multiplayer, one person states the following "I'm not among those people who think Auran just wants to "harm" users, but I think that its not wise to ignore that the real Trainz community is not on DLS, its out there, and thats what keeps Trainz alive."

Now considering the experience of many, many Trainz users I am very new, but I have to ask the question, does your average, general Trainzer not know that there is a whole Trainzworld beyond the DLS? Do they not know that Trainz consists of more than American, English and Australian Content? (I am not talking about, neither a supporter of illegal hosts or piracy)

Yes I am aware and I'm sure many others are too, of places for off-DLS assets of all types. Much of it is pretty darn good it has to be said.

The problem on the other thread you mention though, is that you alluded to, inferred, call-it-what-you-will, that there were other places you could get DLS assets if you were locked out of the DLS. This is quite another thing, which has caused serious bother in the past.

If you meant there are some good Eastern European sites (for instance) with great free content, then that didn't come across at all clearly.

For me, your reference to several "well-known routes" being available with all assets in a mega-pack, implied that the source was not legit. I am still curious as to what you meant by "well known".

stovepipe, do not want to stick my head into that bees nest again, I was not referring to DLS assets, as you call it, but Trainz Content. The Routes I mentioned in this thread form no part in what I discussed elseware.

You need to choose your words carefully, specially when dealing with content distribution.

If we are only talking about legitimate distribution on legitimate third party sites, then exactly what is meant by the thread's title?

Or could it be that The Forbidden Alternative is nothing but a thinly disguised troll....

Dermmy, by forbidden I mean something that, it seems, we are not suppose to talk about, not suppose to think about.

Lately I have come to the conclusion that there are two very distinct groups of Trainz users. The inner circle, Auran/N3V and most of us that regularly post on this Forum. Then there is the outer circle, those who can't be bothered by all of this because they know of something different, something perhaps even better.

By the way Auran/N3V manage their business and treat their friends (according to many posts on this Forum, and with which I agree), more and more Trainz users are discovering the outer circle, in due time the outer circle may be the only Trainz that remain.

I do realise that the use of words are very important, sometime I find it difficult as English is not my spoken language. In the previous post that I mentioned I may have expressed myself wrongly, I did not do my homework (by not searching this Forum) and I made the wrong assumption by referring to (supposedly) well known routes.

That is why I started this Thread, to amend myself, to establish that all is not loss for those that do not agree with the mainline thinking, we can use the tools (google) available to us and join the outer circle (which happen to be the non English speaking Trainz community).

I will not advocate something if I suspect it is wrong.

Ok, to clarify a few things.

Your original post seemed to read as if you were suggesting that users make use of non legitimate 3rd party websites.

The 'hush hush' manner in which you're posts were written also increased the feeling that you wanted users to make use of non legitimate websites (particularly your unwillingness to share website links).

Nobody here is against legitimate 3rd party websites (e.g. RRMods, JointedRail, Razorback Railway, to name a few that I know). However, non legitimate websites (websites that contain content that they do not have permission to host, e.g. a complete copy of the DLS) are not permitted to be posted here. Please see the thread on this (now locked) in the Russian forum to see an example of this.

As above, the manner in which you make your posts, can influence how people feel along with what you are talking about.

I have closed this thread. As you have already seen, your posts have very much conveyed the wrong message, and the replies really are not constructive on this.
