I know some of you in the UK and places like New York have had systems in place for many many years but for a city of only one million this is a great move in the right direction and next to Toronto and Calgary will be the only city in Canada with a well developed up and running system. Info here

With our existing system of 22km of rail and 15 stations Once up and running the new lines will reach all four corners of the city and will be more than 70km of track. The city has decided to go with low floor street level trains instead of the U2 and SD160 high platform cars that we are currently using with connections to the downtown subway stations via elevators and escalators. If funding can be found (already promised for the first 2 of the 4 extentions) construction should be completed by 2017 for all 4 new routs.
