This really happened in Pavonia NJ Yard ... They would kick cars ... and as the entire yard was on a slight downhill gradient ... drafts of unmanned cars would coast downhill through the yard, and roll out the tail end yard throat ... continuing rolling across the busy River Road railway crossing (luckily the crossing gates went down) ... the cars coasted uphill for a short distance ... then stopped ... then proceeded to roll backwards, crossing River Road railway crossing for a second time ! Some times they would see-saw back again for a third trip across River Road railway crossing.

You would hear on the radio all the time " We got run throughs blocking River Road" ... "OK, we'll send a switcher to come get them" !

I don't know how in the world they re-enacted that accident, for the TV show ... Absolutely Horrifying.

Possibly if that cop wasn't in such a rush, the car in front would have missed the runaway boxcars.

When a cop is following close behind you ... it drasticly affects the way you are driving. Either you are going much slower than you would normaly, for fear of getting pulled over ... or you are distracted looking in your rear view mirror at the cop, not seeing the runaway boxcars.

Oh crap! I remember when this aired. I used to watch that show constantly and always remembered this one. Thank you for posting this. So much nostalgia.

No problem. They're all on YouTube. Me and my mom used to watch Rescue 911 all the time when I was a kid, but it was so long ago I hardly remember them.
