Community,

On behalf of the Committee and Myself, I would like to ask for what you would like to see in the 2010 Route Building Competition Theme.

We have decided that the baseboard limit will be 2-8 baseboards, no more no less.

However we could not agree on a theme, therefore we need your help, and why not, it will be you doing the work!

Here are your choices;

* 1970's Era

* Steam, Diesel, or Electric Railroads (it would divided into catagories)

*Port Railroads

*Prototype Railroads

We will not accept any suggestions or votes that do not include the above options. Thank You for your Cooperation.

Voting will end in one week.

Also, Please Keep Negative Comments to yourself, if the said comments are posted, I request the moderators remove them.

We will be releasing more details soon.

If You have any questions, please message either JRT or Myself.

Cheers,
Woody

I understand JRT is in the sin bin, but I'm not quite sure why. Just send the stuff to Woody and that will resolve the problem.

My vote is.....

Prototype railroad:

.... Bailey Yard in North Platte, NE.

........ http://www.visitnorthplatte.com/GoldenSpikeTower.cfm

Not too many trees, buildings, assorted pretty eye candy stuff.... but a lot of classification track and yards. I would suggest using MP track to keep the frame rates acceptable.

Oh.... btw.... who won the 2009 contest?

Last week Woody said that would be announced... soon(tm)... when he was asked the same question by... deeelare.

For Johnk.... Seems strange that the publisher/editor/president of Trainz Magazine would be banned. But, of course, only the moderators know the true reason for the ban.

That's it for me.

Have fun,:)

Hi aardvark1, I'm not sure about it being strange. I bet I've come close on occasions. It gets hard when you're trying to do a community service with little or nor money or support. It doesn't matter how much effort you put in, there are always knockers out there who try to put you down at every turn. Sometimes they just push you too far. Fortunately I haven't collected many, but I do have one or two.

Regarding a theme. Your suggestion of Bailey yard isn't quite what the folks have in mind. At my request, the theme will not be regional. If it ends up being a yard, any yard anywhere in the world would be acceptable. With discrimination issues the way they are these days, the group can't choose a region for fear of offending others - and rightly so.

As a suggestion, my suggestion is:

An independent shortline or branchline starting from a mainline station and terminating at an industry or servicing facility and small yard . The branchline should have its own locomotives and rolling stock so that it's separate from the mainline. As such, it could be a narrow-gauge railway.

If the servicing facility and small yard are not at the distant terminus, they must be somewhere along the branchline, even at the mainline station.

The branchline should include at least one industry of your choice, with the appropriate transfer facilities at the mainline terminus. It should also have facilities for carrying passengers as well as freight.

The mainline tracks do not have to terminate, making it possible to add more baseboards at each end later. The mainline can cater for any traffic you like - high speed, diesel, steam, electric.

The route can be built around any era and any country.
It can be totally fictitious with rolling stock from mixed countries and eras.
The baseboards can be in any shape with a maximum of 8.

Okay, that's my suggestion, and that's all it is. Please don't argue about it or make constructive or destructive comments. Please put up another suggestion instead. That's what IC wants.

1970's themed Port Railroad. Does that count as two votes?
Port Railroads is my vote.

Pacific Northwest, i.e. Oregon or Washington. Log, Lumber and grain exports. Containers of bobbles and trinkets traded between nations.

Johnk...

Since your reply seems directed toward me..what makes you think that I would argue about your suggestion?

I agree that keeping it region neutral is the proper way to go.

At this time, I do not have any further suggestions.

Regards and Have Fun,:)

Hi aardvark1, My suggestion wasn't directed at you and please forgive me if you thought it was. I put the suggestion there to show folks what kind of suggestions they could make. Not as verbose, but along those lines. The group is looking for a single theme for the competition itself, not what individuals would like to build.

My only comment about your suggestion was that by choosing a particular yard, the competition would be regional. If you were referring to what you would like to build in the competition, that's a great choice, but the majority may opt for a port or mining scene, which you would have to build in order to enter.

Sorry about the confusion.

JRT has been banned for a private reason.

However he does not like to be thought of as the president.
He is the owner.
He wanted me to tell you that.

That is all on this subject.
