That's gonna hurt in the morning.

In this case I think the railroads gates were not timed properly and should have dropped sooner, given the speed of the train.

That driver was defenatly dumb. He went over the first track and stalled while the gates were closing. The train was on the far track (And he probably saw it) and he still tried to beat the train.

He didn't stall, he stopped and tried to reverse off the xing, there must of been a car behind him so he had to go forward again to try to get off the xing, I doubt he would of been able to tell which line the train was on so he did his best to clear both.
Those gates did not start to come down until he was right on top of the xing with no hope of stopping, and on a bend yet, I agree with gfisher on this one and put the blame for this one on the timing of the lights, or more to the point the lack of timing.
I feel for both drivers :(

Cheers David

I've seen this video before on another forum. A point came up there: if you look carefully, it seems the gate comes down behind the tractor, blocking the truck driver's means of retreat. When he thought he couldn't go backwards, he no doubt panicked and tried to go forward.

sadly we cannot see the lights on the crossing. I find that generally here (at least in two of the towns I've lived in) the lights and bells start before the gates start moving. If this were the case then I say the driver was at fault.

The reason i think he stopped going backwards was that he had a trailer with him and so couldn't maneuver around the gate (and probably didn't want to wreck his rig driving thru it.

I've noticed two things. First of all, when he backs up he hits something, maybe the gate, maybe a car. Second is when the truck gets hit, it looks like the driver is thrown into the passenger side window.

Yep, he was trapped by the gates. Running forward to clear the tracks was his best bet.
I've had the gate sitting on the hood of my car. Fortunately the guy behind me was kind enough to back up a little so I could clear.

 Claude
