Textures that won't load - Newbie help request

Complete Newbie
Greetiings All,

Completely new to Trainz and these fora.

I bought TS2009 because I happened to need a railway scene for a piece of machinema (computer movie using games or simulators as the vehicle) I'm creating which is partly set in North Wales in 1917... I'm a WW1 flight sim buff for the most part... but I'm very impressed with this sim and will get more into rail simming as a result I think.

I was delighted therefore to discover the excellent range of custom content available to Trainz. The Barmouth to Bala route and the wealth of GWR locomotives and coaches (1912 livery too!) will fit the bill very well - I like to be historically accurate if at all possible - though I confess the GWR, LNWR and Cambrian are a whole new area of research :). Hurrah! More books to buy :Y:

Anyway, long intro aside, I'm gradually correcting the content I'm downloading, getting to grips with the config.txt contents and reading around the various helpful PDFs etc., but there's one thing I persistently can't seem to fix. I get errors reporting that this or that texture can't be loaded but when I look at the content folders everything's there and all seems hunky-dory with the xxx texture.txt file and the associated .tga or .bmp, both are in powers of 2 etc. but they still won't load. I've even recreated the graphics and tried again - no joy.

Is there another common graphic problem that explains this? That I've missed?

Any help much appreciated.

P.S. I'm also getting some script errors with some of the routes that came with the game - but one thing at a time, eh?

Yes...very often there was a fault in the actual mesh that allowed textures to load in older versions but, this error stops them loading in 09/10 etc.

There is an excellent program(I'll provide a link below) that converts .PM meshes to .IM meshes but, it also repairs faults with these meshes that stops trainz from loading the textures.

Install it and when you have an asset open for edit, use this program(PM2IM) and point it to the .IM file of the asset's folder. It'll say something like 'mesh imported to remove invalid textures' or something along the lines.

Click create and a new .IM will be written into the asset's folder(over writting the original)....check for errors once more and then commit the asset.

Here's a link to PEV's brilliant trainz utilities:-

Download and install PM2IM

Hope this helps...

Mart.

Thanks very much for that. What an excellent set of utilities. At least I can now identify the genuine missing graphics.

Thanks again.
