Textures and Such

Hello,

Some ten years ago, I had Trainz 2010 and my computer motherboard died. Other circumstances kept me away from Trainz for a while and I have returned by purchasing TRS2019.

I used to make my own content because I enjoyed seeing my models set out on the small routes I made. Back then, all one needed was in image and bump map and it was easy work.

Now, with a push for realism, several elements go into texturing models, with things such as metal, roughness etc. etc. I tried my hand at it and TRS19 did not recognize any of my work.

It would be nice if TRS19 had a utility that would assist a model-maker in creating things. Moreover, I had to hunt all over the internet to find the utilities that produced the required textures.

I use Blender because I can't afford the high-powered modeling programs.

Oh, well. It is what it is.

nevertheless, cheers to all.

It helps to ask the right questions, however I can imagine it would be hard to ask the right questions when you are a decade removed from the current information. I also use Blender and I'm in the process of learning the current methods (standards) of Trainz creation. I can say the information is all right here. It may take some searching and asking around...but it is here. If you are lucky you can even find some video tutorials on YouTube.

Just a thought, you could get a hold of a copy of 2010, create your assets in your familiar fashion, then save it to a CDP file and drop it into TANE or TRS19 Content Manager and they should load up that way. There are tons of assets in TRS19 created with the 2010 build numbers and below.

I'm sure someone could give better instructions, I don't have my 2010 loaded on any computers right now to test it.

You can still create stuff using im files and images and normal maps (bump map) many still are even in TRS19. Might need an older version of Blender for IM however fbx can be used in the same way, it's not compulsory yet to use pbr, which if you are intending to use TANE as well doesn't work in TANE. Only a few creators have mastered the PBR side of it at present as it's somewhat complicated, I'm leaving it alone until I finish my current project.

Most seem to be using Blender as it's free, some are still using Gmax, I'm using an old version of 3ds max can't afford the extortionate yearly subscription required for an up to date version so will have to learn Blender properly at some point.
