Texture files missing?

Learning... slowly!
When I 'View Errors and Warnings' on content that doesn't work, one of the most common issues that I get is that texture files or shadows meshes cannot be found.

Is there a simple fix for this or is it a case of finding the relevant bits and pieces for each individual asset?

Best things is to wait a few weeks as there is currently a process to fix all faulty items on the DLS with errors like this under way.

The OP is best either checking for any updated versions or waiting for the assets to be fixed, as PEV's tools do not work on Mac OS.

Re missing textures - I sometimes find this when importing my own creations into TS2010 via CM/Import content - the most recent being yesterday when importing a flower bed I had just made resulted in a warning that the flower texture could not be loaded. I checked in two ways - via Edit in Explorer and by looking at my original source file - and it was there. The best solution I have found is to go back to (in my case) Gmax, save a new version with the same details, textures, config, KUID, etc. and re-import. This usually solves the problem.

Of course, I realise that this is not possible with a download - or maybe re-downloading would work; I don't know.

The problem is probably that the texture gets corrupted in some way.

To add to my post above:

The same thing happened again yesterday when I was importing a flower bed made in GMax via CMP. The flower texture (red) would not load although it was there. I had made this texture - a tga - from one of my own photographs, using Serf PhotoPlus (that is probably not important). It needed tiling on the model, and showed hard edges at the tile joints. I then used GIMP to make the texture seamless, and resaved it as a tga. This showed up correctly in GMax but failed to load in TS2010. I then reopened the seamless tga in PhtoPlus, resaved it (in fact in that program it has to be exported as a tga), tried again, and all was well.

Could it be that GIMP saved the tga in compressed format? If so, would it be worth opening the failed texture (assuming it is there) in a graphics editing program and resaving it?

'Cannot be found" is not a common error. I know of 'nonexistent file", "is missing or could not be loaded" or "is missing". They all have different fixes. If the faulty asset is on the DLS then post the kuid - someone can look at it and explain exactly why the message appears.

GIMP saves compressed TGAs by default unless the RLE compression box is unticked during saving.

Thank you, Shane, for this information - I have only used GIMP for making textures seamless on rare occasions, and did not know of this default. I shall be able to save one step in the creation process in future!
