Testing HostThenPost

I'm having trouble seeing pictures that people upload to HostThenPost. This is just a test with an image that I uploaded to HTP myself. It appears that I can't see it, well not from my home PC at least. :(

I seem to have no trouble seeing the images from my work laptop...hmm.

Must be something about my home PC then.

As I said, I can see it fine from my work computer. I compared IE8's advanced settings on the work PC against those of IE9 on my home PC. They are the same as far as possible. And I have the same problem with HostThenPost when using Google Chrome to browser the forum, so I'm more convinced than ever that it's nothing to do with any particular internet browser. I'm stumped.

Different firewall / antivirus or something like adblock would be the most likely cause. Firefox, McAfee, and I have adblock installed here, but I see the picture.

If anti-virus was the issue, you should be able to just add the domain to an exemption list, regardless of what you use.

Try to see if you do have an anti-virus or firewall blocking websites, perhaps then add hostthenpost to the exemptions and try to view your image then.

I'll do that, but tell me this; if a site is being blocked by a firewall or anti-virus program, would you expect it to allow the first few scanned lines of an image to get through before the download stops? That's what I actually see happening. It's as if the image 'times out' when about 5-10% done. That doesn't sound like firewall/anti-virus to me, but I'm non-expert.

I'm not an expert either, but if I pretend to be an expert often enough I sometimes make lucky guesses. :cool: I would suspect yes, McAfee Site Adviser usually loads enough of a problem web page to see potential problems before it stops loading and switches to the "WHOA are you sure you want to go there?" message.

Also right click on the part of the image you can see, select View Image Info;

Make sure you don't have something like that checked on.

Sniper I'm currently not at my home computer, but yes I can see what you posted. And I know I will be able to see it at home too because it's hosted on ImageShack. It's only HostThenPost that my PC has this difficulty with.

I've never seen that sort of menu and dialog box though..all I get on Right-click is the opportunity to look at Properties which looks like this...there's no tick-box to check.

Hmmm, must be a Firefox thing. I tried with internet exploder 8 and got the same thing, giggle chrome only has a "view page source" option that shows all the java script stuff. But I can see the hostthenpost image in any of the three browsers.

Well thanks for your efforts anyway. I will trawl though my IE-9 and Kaspersky settings again and look for any sign that HostThenPost has been blacklisted. I did that once already and found nothing. I'm kind of feeling like that Chevy does..

I cannot see it, there is only a little icon and I can't open that either, I use kaspersky.
Given up looking at screenshots for now, cannot see half of them anyway.

Have you tried using a different browser?

Yes Alex. Freshly installed Google Chrome. Exact same problem. As said above I don't think this is a browser problem, although that's the first thing everyone jumps on because browsers are a 'religious' issue for many users and they like to blame the ones they think are infidels.
