TANE: "Track types may be incompatible" when adding a bridge

It's been a looooong time since I used Trainz, so I've launched TANE and started a route. I've hit a problem early on with adding a bridge from the Track tab.

It used to be case that a bridge could be added just like additional track. But now I get this error when selecting a bridge and trying to connect to a track spline:

Error cannot connect to this vertex. The track types may be incompatible, or the maximum stretch count may have been reached.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to add a bridge with supports across a river? Is there any documentation or YouTube videos tat are recommended?

Connect the track to the bridge rather than the other way around. This also applies to fixed-track assets such as railroad crossings, station platforms and industries, and tunnels. Tunnels are considered a type of bridge.
