Syncronizing kuid numbers between versions of Trainz

I have just installed 2010 and updated with sp3. I tried to clone on of my assets and cloned asset was given one of my very early kuid numbers from TRS2006. The cloned asset does not show an error, but it also does no show up in the Surveyor menu when i go to place the asset on a route.

How do I reset the kuid for 2010 to start at 1400

Short answer. Since SP2 you can't set a starting number for KUIDs. CM3.2 is set to use, starting from 1000, any number that is not in its database or on the DLS.

To fix it, Open for edit in explorer, copy the entire contents to a folder somewhere called whatever your cloned asset was, modify the config.txt to the old number and any other details, then select the folder and drag and drop into the main screen. Finally select it and commit.

OK I tried that, the asset committed without error, but it still does not show up in Surveyor so I can place it on a route.

Let me state the problem again. In 2010, I clone an asset and it is assigned a new kuid number. This number is kuid:32711:1007. I then go to surveyor to place this asset on a route. The asset does not show up on the pick list. I do an extended database repair the asset shows up in a list of faulty asets as follows: Error: Asset <kuid:32711:1007> does not match the asset database record.

It appears there is a problem with 2010 in that it will not recognize assets it has cloned.

You have something wrong locally, I just tried what you want to do. I cloned one of my assets, committed it and it showed up in Surveyor. Are you looking in the right menu in Surveyor?

Is there a special menu for cloned items? I cloned a portal and renamed it. I have done this numerious times in 2006 and 2009. It always shows up in the Objects - F3 tab. It is no where to be found in 2010. I have put in a request for help from Auran Help Desk. First time since I started using trains in 2006. Hope it doesn't take forever to get a solution.

TS2010 defaults to showing favorites only, out of the box. In the main interface, the one after the spashscreen where you can see your buildnumber, this is shown by yellow stars. Click on the star above the stars column and that filter is switched off. The same is the case in surveyor. In the little text bar where you could type something to search for content in trs2006 is a little dot on the right hand side if a search filter is active. Click it and on the right of your screen opens the search filter window. Remove the rating entry there and all installed content will become visible. Personally I went to the surveyor options dialog and removed the tickmark for the "show favorites only", otherwise you'll have to do this everytime you open up surveyor mode.

Hope this helps.:)

Chris, Jan,

Thanks. That seems to have fixed the problem of finding the asset. Now I need to figure out how to keep it from creating kuid numbers that duplicate assets I have created in ealier versions. Is there a way I can tell 2010 where to start numbering?

Sadly not that I know of. I've asked this some time ago too, but it seems that option, that was available allways before, has been removed from SP2 and onwards. The only remedy I can think of is to import all your creations into 2010 before doing anything else, or, as narrowgauge mentioned earlier, renumber all your created assets by hand. Depending how many things you've made over the years the first option is probably the easiest choice.

Chris, Any chance to get back the ability to control kuid numbering in 2010? I vote for an immediate rolback of this non-essential, problem causing "enhancement".

Me for one would very much like to second that request to be able again to set a base kuid starting number for new versions of trainz, including 2010. :)
