swapping engine sounds

Hi folks. I have TS2009 and I'd like to somehow alter the GP 7's and 9's so they use the same engine sound files as the F7's. These early diesels didn't use turbochargers, but for some reason TS2009 has them using the same sound files as the SD40, etc. Since the GP 7's and 9's used virtually the same prime mover and electrics as the F7's, it would sound better if they shared the same sound files.

I did search the forum and found instructions to do this with the earlier versions of Trainz, but that post doesn't seem to apply to TS2009...

Can anyone help me with this?

Jason

Open for edit the GP7s and 9s in question, edit in explorer. Now go look for the F7s and do the same. In the config file of the F7 folder, look for the following line

enginesound <kuid:x:xxx>

Copy the kuid.
Now go back to the config file of the GP7/GP9 and open up it's config file.
Replace whatever kuid is in the enginesound line, close and save.
Commit all the locomotives you've opened for edit, and you're good to go.
The same method would apply for hornsound if you want those too.
If for some reason you need to go back to the originals, just find the loco, right click > Revert To Original.

On a side note, I'd highly recommend you use the F7s from Jointedrail.com. They look and sound so much better than the defaults it can't be described in words.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

Thanks for the reply. This sounds like a really dumb question but exactly where are the engine files located in the TS2009 folders? I've looked through all the ones installed on the computer and I don't see anything like an "assets' folder as in Rail Simulator....where do I find these files?

Start CM2 and set the Search Action Panel to Category - Train Engine and all enginespec kuids will be listed.

TRS06 and above uses some incomprehensible filing system. In CMP/CM2 you need to right click the locomotive > Edit in Explorer. CMP/CM2 moves it to a temporary location under \Program Files\Auran\TS2009 (or whichever you have)\Editing where you can edit the asset's components.

Nicholas.

You dont need to find the engine files. Just change the kuid number in the config of ypur engine, trainz will find the file. In CMP olick on the F7 and read config, look for engine sound and note the kuid number. Now open the two engines you want altered, with edit in explorer, open the config file and change the kuid number of engine sound with the kuid you noted down. Exit and save them commit both back to CMP.

figured it out!

Hey folks thanks for the kind advice and yes I have learned how to do this quite effectively. At first I was missing a step (committing files) but once I read the instructions AGAIN I found the commit command and everything worked just fine!

Thanks again!
