suggestions regarding route building

More on Khyber Pass: Google Earth has reasonable orthophotos. If you know where they are, you can make out the two reverses (switchbacks) and the runaway tracks. The Google Maps/Earth railway layer, on the other hand, is mostly rubbish, apparently traced from the aerial images but without a clue of this line.

Yes the imagery on GE is surprisingly good. I recall a couple of years ago tracing the route for a (sadly aborted) attempt at building a westernised version of it in RW. As you say though Roland, the Google and other free map representation is only a course representation of the actual path taken by the line.

The biggest problem attempting this line in Trainz would probably be overcoming the height limits, after all we are in the Himalayas here!

you can tutor me on textures, and the way you lay track,i have a route i am working on and can send you the .cpd so you can take a look at it so far
I noticed that you are not set up for PM's, and your Email is unlisted ... You will notice that I except PM's and my Yahoo EMail is clickable.

I am really making progress on my route and am using my newest learned techniques of laying FT Track 1000m for straights ... then laying MB Quad Track over top of the FT Track, and laying curves with single track connected to the MB Quad track.

As to applying gradients, when clicking on a single track, it will not raise the next Multi-Track spline ... so I lay a sacrificial single track spline off to the side of the mainline, and apply my gradients to that sacrifical single track ... then I measure each spline point height on the single track, and transfer that height to the mainline track spline points.

For curve radius I use FT tarck also, and lay single track over top of it, matching the FT track spline points.

All my turnouts measure at least 300' point to point.

Applying textures, hold down on the [ ] KB keys, and it will blurr the textures.
Gentle taps of textures are often better than just heavy painting of solid textures. A mottled collage of stippled textures can be copy/pasted anywhere.

As I only have TRS2006 at present, any CDP would have to be backdated to trainzbuild 2.6
