Was attempting to merge 2 routes and have a strange problem. I am told that there are 2 layers with the same name. Route Layer is in both routes. Every route has a Route Layer. I can rename one of them to make it work. TANE did not have this, it would just merge them together. Is this a bug or the way it is now?

TANE actually did have this as I encountered it each time I did a merge. So it is not a bug but a necessary step to avoid problems. Rename, delete (with consequences) and merge are the options for layers with the same name.

You can't merge with the same names.

As far as I am aware, that has always been the case. Usually I rename the "route-layer" of one of the route before I merge and the problem never arises.

I figured that out but then I had to leave to go to the Steelers game so I have not done a complete merge yet. We won the game and I am too worked up to attempt merging at this moment so I am going to go play BattleTech and destroy some enemy mech warriors.

I have been following the NFL, on and off, this season but with the time and date differences (Sunday night matches are shown live here Monday about midday) often play havoc with my viewing. It has been an interesting season with some of the favourites missing out on the playoffs and a host of "hopefuls" still in the running. I will try to watch the playoffs and then, most definitely, the big one sometime on Monday Feb 4th (my time).

Yes, you can merge layers with the same name. eg. Route Layer merging into Route Layer.
Click on the layers tab in the merge window
Click on the Lower "Route Layer"
Click the merge layer button
Select the upper "Route Layer" to merge into and click ok
You now only have one single route layer.
It works as I used it yesterday
cheers

You are correct - but I believe (and I could be wrong here) that the OP was of the belief that the warning TANE (and TRS19) give when you merge routes that have layers with the same name was something new or a bug.

Both routes have a route layer named route layer. They both are in red and will not let me merge two layers with the same name. It did not do that to me in my version of TANE. I can however merge themby naming the merging route's layer name. Other wise as I said above, the merge icon has a red flash in it and the check mark to initiate the merge is greyed out until I rename one of the layers. I think it may be from different versions of the routes. Will explore more tomorrow. It is midnight here and time to go to bed.

Both routes have a route layer named route layer. However I am not using TANE for anything in here.
