Still using 2006?

How many people out there are still using Trainz 2006. I have been
building a layout for ages and have about 150 squares completed at this
stage. I used 2006 plus addons 1,2,3 and 4. I tried transfering over to
Trainz 2009 but there are too many objects missing and faults at this stage.
I would like to get it out into the Trainz Community at some stage in the
future if enough people are still using it.

I'm moving to TS2009 no matter what.

As a community we ask for improvements and fixes to whatever the current version is. TS2009 is the latest and whilst some things are not as good as they were others are better. We should all support the forward movement of this excellent application and be thankful this product is going forward rapidly and comprehensively where others are faltering. I also believe that given the immense complexity and rich features compared with other products and the very reasonable cost, we will have to accept that the product will always fall short of the perfection we seek but that should not stop us from striving to improve it.

By all means use older versions if they suit the project but be constructive in supporting the game development and growth.

Lets put our support, energy and expertise into the future development of Trainz.

Still using TRS2004

Still using TRS2004. Why? Spent too much time building routes that may or may not work with future upgrades. Besides I hate upgrades.:hehe:

Keep at it with 2006, there's loads of people using it.
Creators at the moment are trying to make there content compatible with 2009, some are waiting until they know 2009 is a steady platform before changing there content.

Both, personally I can't see myself giving up on TRS2006, however a large joint project is in the works aimed at 09 compatibility mode :p

Well I have got one UK project which I'm definitely doing in the "maverick" TC3 so it can use the supplied rolling stock assets and block signalling seamlessly. However I am debating whether a European route I also want to develop would be better done in '009 as opposed to '09. The biggest issues as I see it are...
i. Judging by the boards both here and at UK Trainz there is a good proportion of users who are sticking with '06 and may not even have purchase '09. Building in '09 effectively precludes them trying the route.
ii. Transdem has yet to be updated for '09. While it is theoretically possible to produce the DEM'ed and mapped boards in '06 and copy across to '09 editing folder, Transdem does not yet support the finer terrain mesh in '09. I believe there may be other issues such as the mini-map not displaying correctly.
iii. Will it not all be swept away by TS-X anyway!

still using TRS06 here - primarily because I have a long term one-man route project going. and because there isn't that much of a bank of content for 09 yet AFAIK.

GAURC staff were ALL 2009 beta-testers, and each of us supports 2006 all the way.

We will remain a 2006 site for some time to come.

I'll give you the magic three capital letters and four numerals any day. If you're a 10 or 12 year old kid, wanting to find a quality simulator for trains
( Let's face it... who doesn't?:o ) then TRS2006 is the way to go. I got my copy at the Brisbane RNA Train Show. It's basically a model train show, with about fifty exhibits, large and small. I really recommend it. Unless you're a day's drive from Queensland... in that case, look for something slightly closer to home. Or if you happen to be a United Statesman.

I love TRS2006 but I'm moving to TRS2009 today. I'll still use TRS2006 occasionally for the addons when I find out how to properly install them, but otherwise I'm going 2009.

There are hundreds of us still using TRS2006, probably thousands of us, RussellRFR, so don't worry about the number of downloads your little layout will attract......Have a look at the TRS2006 forum thread and the number of TRS2006 and TRS2006 SP1 assets still being downloaded to this day if you don't believe me, and don't forget that only a fraction of TRS2006 users come on the forum regularly.

We need more quality routes to play on, so, keep 'em coming.....

Good luck with your project.....

I'm also another forced TRS2006 holdout.

TS2009 has simply become unworkable for me. It rocked when I first got it. Worked better with both DirectX and Open GL than TRS2006. Since all of the "upgrades", DirectX gives me a kaleidoscope of colour when moving through a route, and OpenGL my frame rates are about a quarter of what they were when I first got it . I don't get it.

That aside, happy with '06 with exception of sound and when Content Mangler has one of it's sporadic hormonals.

I started with 04 when it came out and also bought 06 when it came out but 06 gave me problems as I could never get CMP to work, my 06 was the version from Just Trains. I reverted back to 04. I now have TC3 and find this is as stable as 04 has always been but with the advantage that I can use 06 assets....

I have 06 around somewhere, but it was a strain on my computer and I didn't see any real improvement so I went back to 04. There are people who still use UTC. Go ahead and finish the route in 06.

:cool:Claude

I've got every version of Trainz but when I moved over to my new PC two months ago, I've only loaded up '06, TC3 and '09.

I still consider '06 the primary version as I only use TC3 for UK layouts and '09 is just for testing purposes at the moment.

Cheers,

Im still using 06. All my reskins and items are for 06. I cant see switching to 09 untill the issues are ironed out and more 09 content is available. Thats just me :D
