Steam V's N3V

Well I know this has been thrashed about I few times but as I have been using steam for my games for quite sometime.
I'm a MSTS from way back I was broswing through steam catalogue of games an sims a few weeks back and found Trainz figured time to get an updated version after checking how much Aussie content was around for Trainz I made the plunge.... however I made the plunge without thinking ... too hard on the subject of updates and such!! having never needed updates for games I played trhough steam I didn't think it would be and issue.

Well I enjoy the online game play so much I'm now seriously concidering buying trainz12 again from N3V so I can get back on the same version as everyone else... or atleast a compatible release...

so what to do.. ???

OK now here comes the big question....

If I say get a friends install and use my KEY on it will it work will I be able to update to teh latest version??? without burning my account with both steam and auran...
I have a years worth of first class ticket to booot will I still be able to use that ticket...


Or do I haveto spend yet another $50 buck AUD to get off the steam Trainz ... (pun intended)


I hope one of you Official Type Peoples out there can help me with this quondry I find myself in... however as my son also has teh same issue with his release trainz being on a steam train, I would expect he would like to do the same thing... I mean its not like we are pirating the software as we paid full price for it.. or the same price as it is on N3V online store for digital download..
we both own our steam trainz... we just wish to change trainz ...

So if I use a friends install with my KEY will it be pirating software.?

OK so what you are saying I"m stuck with the steam version or go buy it again... Grrrrrrr I hate that .... Thanks for the feedback

ALSO what about the ticket if I get a new version with my current key or buy another will that ticket be useless?????

white pass is right,it will not work,,, and if you get it off of steam... you might find some suff on the download station that will not work due to the build number....i found that out, it better to get trainz from the auran online store, then from steam.... as for right now, steam is a few builds behine what yout can get from auran,,,

No harm in trying your friends disk with your key, after all you've got 2 chances. I ended up doing a similar thing with Arma2. Brought the steam version but now I use my friends disk with my Steam CD Key, I have no problems with that.

Won't work

I first got TS12 "10th Anniversary Collector's Edition" and tried to register it, kept coming back with "invalid code". Then I clicked the down button on the product window, and discovered I was trying to register Trainz Simulator 12 with the activation code for 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition - selecting THAT one and entering the same code worked first time. There are two other versions, "Railroad Simulator - powered by TS12" and "Railway Simulator - powered by TS12", I assume one of those is the Just Trains version and the other is the STEAM version. Since the "10th Anniversary Collector's Edition" code won't work for the N3V "Trainz Simulator 12", it's logical to assume it wouldn't work in any other version.

I don't see why it wouldn't work both versions use the same 24 character CD key.

WEll I have in fact had to buy again in order to get away from steam only because after reading the above posts we got worried it would stuff up his key / account

Ok I was worng about the first class ticket... I still can use it as its not tied to the game its tied to the forum account....
