On my personal route, depending up which train and I'm driving, I already know which station and platform will be next.
Let's If I'm driving a a commuter train from Eastport track 8 headed to Wrentham, for example, I know that the next station is Radford, track 1, followed by Cottage Hill, track 2 (Cottage Hill is a 4-track station with tracks 3 & 4 are to and from Bowdoin, and tracks 1 &2 are via Ashburn), etc.
