starting locomotives

Hi there, im new to this, i need some help with how to start a locomotive, in one scenarion with a conrail loco it says to start the locomotive how do i do this? any help appreciated, thanks

Go into Session Config and click 'Driver Command'.

Scroll down until you see 'Locomotive Start or Shut Down Command'

Tick the box to the immediate left of the command name.

Exit the current window (make sure you press the tick)

Go into 'Driver Setup'.

Add the command to the driver's que at the start by clicking the green arrow to get the driver command drop-down menu and find Locomotive Start or Shut Down Command (it should be at the bottom of the list). Then click it to add it to the list.

Exit the current window (make sure you press the tick)

Exit Session Config

Click on 'Quick Drive'

You should be able to run the loco.

If you are using 2009, I understand the loco in question may not work.

Or, if you want to be more realistic try this: If you're placing the loco in Surveyor, then be sure to put some fuel in it. Then go to Driver - Cab mode, press 1 to go into the cab, press [ to face the back of the cab. Set the isolation switch to Start then press and hold the Start button until the engine starts. Finally put the isolation switch to Run, press ] to face forward, release the brakes and drive.

There are at least three ways.

DCC mode (simpler):
Drive yourself. Press the > key to go faster, the < key to go slower (and into reverse), and the / key to stop quickly.

CAB mode (more difficult, more realistic):
This is quite complicated but very rewarding once you can do it. Probably the best advice is run the tutorial sessions (but they might be inoperative or buggy or in a foreign language in TS2009), or read the manual.

AI control (give the train commands, effectively programming it):
Do this in Surveyor or Driver as the guyz above have explained.
