Looking for train simulator games have posted other threads with conflicting results. I had MSTS 2002 liked it, after awhile got bored, got married and stopped playing, especially after I got PS2 and PS3. I just got a brand new laptop and want to play new games. I have a blank computer with no games. These are the specs to the computer.

HP PAVILION dv7 PC NOTEBOOK............... 17" screen
INTEL CORE 17-3610QM
CPU @ 2.30 GHZ
MEMORY 12 GB RAM
WINDOWS 7 64- BIT
GRAPHICS/ INTEL HD GRAPHICS 4000

What games are out there AND will work on my laptop, saw one on you-tube think it was trainz 2012, with the Acela. Very kool something like that

Thanks,

After much conversation with you, I would say TS12 if you are brave (as it has the NKP Berkshire if you install SP1) ... definitely TS10 ... as for TRS2006 will be fun to run, but you will need to fix things by backdating, and require other peoples help doing so, and TRS2006 is unsupported.

I tried to get people to recommend TS12 to you on your previous thread, but few responded.

Some say to install outside of: Programfiles, as all that does is stop the UAC from bothering you (what else that does by installing there is unknown to me).

You can install 2 separate versions of TS12, one with SP1, and one without SP1.

You can install several Trainz versions on a PC with allot of disc space, as well as several other video games.

Lots of people here will assist you with all the patching process(s), as you should not test run a train until all the patch's have been applied.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend anything above TRS2006 or Trainz Classics for you due to your graphics card. Intel cards are not normally very good for handling TS2009 and later versions.

I would think (but I really don't know for sure that Railworks (which is Steam and might cost you at least $100 in payware) would also be very hard on a laptop specs.

As for Run8, KUJU, and MSTS I am unsure also, but I suspect that they too also are heavy on graphics.

I run TRS2006 on antiquated Toshiba Satallite 105 Laptop, 32bit, 2Gb Ram, 1.73GHz CPU, on an Integrated Graphics chip ... and TRS2006 gives me as high as @ 35 FPS, and runs pretty well.

TRS2006 costs @ $15 on EBay and there still are some brand new, virgin discs, in sealed box's. (watch the sellers reputation scores and return policy)

TRS2006 (Trainz Railwayz by Merscom, buld 3337) will be up and running inside of less than 1/2 hour, as it requires no SP1

builtin graphics are not good for ts 12 though they can run game but the frame rates are in single figures then u might blame trainz as bad game and might dislike it so better buy ts 10 atleast

I was running Trainz 12 on a HP Pavilion G6, 4G RAM, Intel HD3000 and it was running just fine. Make sure you dont have the draw distance set too far. Other than that it will be just fine.

Unfortunately, that's no longer true, at least with the digital downloads - according to N3V, they come with SP1 + the hotfixes now, and there is no way to get rid of SP1, unfortunately. The disc version may be another matter, but there hasn't been any official word on that. It's been this way for some time now. N3V is pretty much forcing their new DRM on the community and no longer allowing us to "opt-out" by not patching.

That CPU is kind of slow - clock speed makes a difference with Trainz - and modern versions of Trainz don't do well with integrated graphics, although HD4000 is "relatively" good - but still integrated. I'd go either for Ts2009 or TS2010 is you plan to try out Trainz. Keep in mind that laptops are considerably slower than a desktop with similar specs and, to make matters worse, almost always have a ton of unnecessary baggage running in the background like backup trays, monitoring junk provided by the manufacturer, updaters for pretty much everything on the computer, etc. There is a utility called GameBooster that can help turn the unnecessary stuff of when playing games that may help.

I thought I'd better check, as Intel graphics cards normally have problems with OpenGL (and quite often fail one of the TrainzDiag checks).

Shane

Intel supports openGL but up to a certain version. Newer versions are not supported, but Trainz doesnt use them anyway!

The older Intel chipsets/graphics cards didn't support OpenGL properly at all, and as a result failed the OpenGL version check in TrainzDiag. Newer ones may have improved on this though.

Shane

This is good to know as this opens up the options for many people. If the CPU and disks are good, but the display is the newer Intel chipset, we may have a good portable solution after all.
