SpeedTree Problem

I'm suddenly having a problem with SpeedTrees. CMP, 3.3, says I have more of them than show up in Surveyor. Also some of the trees placed are now bare trunks. Also several, not all of them, show up as just trunks when I place them on a route. I did an EDR and that didn't help. Any ideas on what the problem could be.

Thanks, Andy

Hi Andy,

This might be the time of year setting in the Environment.

In Surveyor click on the Environment option off of the File menu.

Change the date to summer time and you should see leaves and branches.

jimabbey - you may want to check the versions that the OP has, as they are not showing TS12 (although the OP should have mentioned which version they referred to).

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, changing the date back and forth to July and back to today's date put leaves on the bare trees. However my CMP still says I have SpeedTreeGroups that don't show up in Surveyor. I did download a couple of mcguirel's and gwapo50's trees, and they work. Is there a limit to how many of these can go on a route? The one I'm doing is fairly large, and I haven't really gotten into placing landscape and textures yet. I reset the draw distance down to 3000m to see if this helps. My computer has 2-cores, 4-processors, 12gigs of RAM, and 1 gig of RAM on the video card, also running Windows 8. The machine is only a month old. Any other thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Some of the speedtree groups have been deliberately hidden from view in Surveyor due to performance issues. There is a way of changing this, but I would not recommend doing so.

As for limits, it's a question on how many your system can handle.

If you are not doing so already, try running Trainz in Open GL rather than Direct X. Also, run a check on Windows to see your computer's hardware ratings. Often a great CPU and lots of memory is brought down by a slower hard drive. I haven't seen Windows 8, but on Windows 7 click on Control Panel, System and Security, System, Check Windows Experience and run a scan - I would imagine Windows 8 will use similar settings. If your hard drive is reasonably slower than your CPU etc, you might need to purchase an external SSD to run Trainz (and any other high end programs)from.
