Speed Blocks

So I came up with this brand new idea and I hope the mods consider this as a suggestion: Speed Blocks. This feature you would go into the mini map and for each signal block you can assign a certain speed and that's how fast the train would go. It would eliminate the need for constantly placing speed signs and junctions, crossovers, etc. Actually it would cease the point in having them at all.

I find it most useful for when tracks converge with a medium clear signal because although the track is 79 MPH the medium clear signal overwrites the speed limit and won't put it back to normal speed at next block. Also when a crossover is approached and I have double headed signals I've had the medium clear signal even when staying on the same track and I find it quite annoying to have to place speed signs on every single stretch of track no matter what. So just my 2 cents. placed it here since it was rejected by the suggestion boxcar.

This is because speed signs if your going from a higher speed for example 60 to a lower speed 30 the speed changes as soon as the lead engine passes it. While going from a lower speed to a higher speed 30 to 60 the speed change doesnt take place till the final car as has passed the sign. I am not sure why you want to get rid of speed signs as there realistic in the real world. And if you really want to you can see signals as speed signs via the session rules.

And if it was rejected in the suggestion boxcar then the idea either has already been posted. Or isnt needed.

Well it helps because I won't have to place multiple signs. I was playing the Marias Pass back in 2006 and I was on a branch line that went at a low speed and entered the mainline and it was at a higher speed and I didn't see the speed sign at the junction.

Pretty sure there are multiple signs in real life from what Ive seen and in many cases you would want to have a signal or something trigger a slower speed limit and why post again if it was rejected once?!

I Don't know why they rejected it!! It's almost impossible to get anything placed on there. I think they've really tightened up over there.

We don't know the criteria for judging what will be published in the Suggestion Boxcar, but I've had a couple that apparently didn't fit. It didn't occur to me to do an "end run" and post it anyway.

The existing Trainz AI speed system is very close to prototype - USA prototype anyway - up to and including the speed restriction to below the posted maximum after passing a 'Yellow' signal and the fact that speed increases are not implemented untill the EOT has passed the speedboard. I'm not sure I can see how the basic system could be improved at that level.

Also not sure how or why placing a 'block' on the mini-map is quicker, easier or more convenient than placing a sign in Surveyor...

You can't - the AI always starts at 40mph speed limit untill it passes a speedboard. Getting the AI to look behind to the previous speedboard (or even better being able to 'programme' a start speed limit) would be a worth-while addition. In fact the need is so dire there is probably a rule I've missed! I normally make sure the starting point for AI trainz is just in front of a speedboard...

Then how do you implement restrictions?

As in when maintenance is being done? Easy. We have a restricted speed option where the block will be highlited red and place the desired speed. Or have a session and route layer. Therefore you can go to any block where you want trains to go slow and it shall be done. Just make sure you pay attention to the layers. Hope that makes sense.
