Sources for DEM Data?

Hi all. I may have found an answer using the search function, and a few via Google, but for the most part, I'm coming up blank. To those who create DEM routes with MicroDEM and HOG, do you have a go-to source for actually downloading the data besides GeoCommunity? I'm working on something around St. Louis, but so far the only area I can download is Chesterfield. I'm trying to find something for Maryland Heights, Wildwood, and Augusta.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be much obliged.

This is with TransDEM in mind, but the procedure is the same for MicroDEM:

The GeoTIFF format is the only one that provides floating point resolution for elevation. With MicroDEM/HOG you might benefit from its increased accuracy going the Piglet way, but I am not sure. In National Map Viewer GeoTIFF is the default format.
