SOO BOXCARS NEEDED

Euphod....

did not take you long to come up with something...and it is better than I could do, but then I don't know how to do it, but would be fun learning how, but think I am too old to try....also in regard to Googling Ashland, WI...it was an interesting place, especially from a railroad aspect....now I am getting a lot older, but a couple things I can remember are..........railroads: Soo Line, Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Chicago Northwestern and one more name I can't remember, all hauled out of there...if I remember correctly it had 4-5 ore docks (the one that partially remains is made mostly out of concrete and they don't have the money to tear it down....at least 3 coal docks, and a pulp hoist that took logs from across Lake Superior in Minnesota and Canada in rafts, and loaded them into rail cars...I lived there when the change from steam to diesel occured, so I saw a lot of interesting stuff....snowplows, cranes...etc....gee.....the good old days

I don't think there is an age limit for creating content, a couple are in their eighties, I'd start with reskinning first then gradually move on.

Cheerio John

thanks for the encouragement guys.....I am into photography, making dvd slide shows and other presentations, etc., but don't have the knowledge on how to go about reskinning, and what few tutorials I have seen about it, don't know if I could do it, so it is just better to leave well enough alone....let alone try content creation....lol

A similar thing was done with ageing boxcars way out here in the west. Doors were removed and the cars were used to haul veneer to plywood mills. Three to four rows of metal banding/strapping material was run across the door opening to keep the veneer bails from falling out.
Regretfully, I have no pictures.

Well Ed....No one else has pix of them...The person that I thought had some...Did not have any....Appreantly they dont even use them cars anymore......So if ya want...Ya can make some more numbers and then just shoot them over this way....Like just make it a 5 or 10 car number series

Thanks again

I can work out some 40 and 50 footers from what you've given me. Check your mail, I sent you something through Auran.

Just one car, I sent it as test. I didn't even get the chance to mess with the coupler or the load yet....but you can look at it!

It is good to see others on here from the same area I'm from northern Wisconsin. The last I heard was that the ore dock in Asland was to be demolished in '07. Not certain if that took place. It was originally built in 1916 and then extended in 1925. I have heard conflicting stories as to when it was used last. Some things I have read said it was last used in 1965 but I had always thought that the Edmund Fitzgerald (that sank in 1975) used the ore dock in Asland??? While growing up in northern Wisconsin I had seen many of those box cars with the boards and cardboard in place of the doors hauling the woodchips. The cardboard is actually very thick, heavy duty paper. The majority of those chips are bound for the paper mills all along the Wisconsin River - Mosinee, Wausau, Brokaw, and Tomahawk. The paper mills use the wood chips to burn in their boilers, the paper products are made from other wood(pulp) logs that are made into chips and a mixture on site. I also really like the car you made and will download it for sure when it shows up.

So you from Wausau eh.....If so...Did you check out our Valley Sub line that were doing in that area in the WC Shotz http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=28724&page=15

Very good pictures with a high level of detail. I would be interested in learning more about the layout. I'm from a little north of Wausau and have moved to the Kenosha area six years ago. When I lived up there I was a member of the Wisconsin Valley Model Railroad Club for a short time. I used to like to go down to the yard and watch things. The one and only time I ever got to ride on a train was from that yard north to do some switching. It's difficult to remember because I was only 15 at the time. Another time when I was a little older I was looking around in the old turn table pit and was told to get out of there.:hehe:

I'm sorry, I've been in the hospital, and away from my PC, and have not worked on it recently.

Where and when will this boxcar be available. It would be a nice addition to my American Dessert Rail Road.
