Well, while Sandpatch is being tested before release (very soon), I have been playing with MRL and this little chunk of a route.
Long way to go, and as you can see, areas are in various states of scenery, but ALL THE TRACK IS IN! whew
Finally after about 4 years of work to get to this point.
Now just have to finish the scenery.
Nothing special about the screenies, just snapped a few in Surveyor to show progress.
Starting from the South on the roof of the San Bernadino station:
Moving a bit (compass) north we find Sullivan's Curve:
Trying to find a happy balance between scrub brush and performance. This is a large area and too many objects slow things down. Still working on the balance up Cajon.
Haven't found a good look for Mormon's Rocks. They are light and striated layers. Still looking for something believable...
Continuing on, we are at the roadside park at Summit:
No scrub brush here at this point or details, but will eventually look much better when I add the scrub brush and details similar to Sullivan's curve in the previous shot.
After the Frost crossover, we find Victorville:
After Valley Junction, we enter Barstow Yard:
Some simple texturing and yard details. Obviously more to come!
From Barstow, 167.83 miles East is Needles:
Just trackwork in. Very little test scenery and no textures between Barstow and Needles thus far. 70mph track speed though!
From Barstow westward, we cross through Edwards A.F.B. and come into Mojave where the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe join:
The Santa Fe has trackage rights over the Southern Pacific to Kern Jct.
Mojave thru Caliente is pretty much done as that was to be Tehachapi II, but all that has been merged into the huge overall route.
Continuting Wast is the famous Loop:
Most images and video I see of the loop area show brown grass in the summer. For a few weeks in spring, it IS green... I just prefer the look of the brown. Experimenting with trees. LOL
Almost to Bakersfield is Kern Jct., where the Santa Fe Wyes off from the Southern Pacific:
Scenery is in, but no textures. I find texturing last in areas like this to be easier and allows for more accurate placement of buildings.
The Westernmost terminus - Bakersfield yard:
167.83 miles from Barstow to Needles,
138.3 miles from Barstow to Bakersfield,
81.4 miles from Barstow to San Bernadino =
387.53 miles !
I've never been end-to-end-to end in one sitting.
This will be released in TS12 as multiplayer eventually.
Or, maybe whatever the next version of TRAINZ is.
Time frame of the route is approximately 1999 or 2000. Sometime before they put the other main up Cajon. Wanted to be able to believably run SF and SP stuff as well as BNSF stuff. Neither perfect, but a reasonable compromise.
Currently the install CDP of the route is 153MB.
Will eventually be looking for additional testers and experts to help make this route all it can be!
Enjoy and stay tuned!
