Socket 775 mount

The pushpin socket 775 mount is a poor design in my books. I was having problems, traced it to the cpu cooler mount. Found one of the pushpins only had 1/2 of its plastic there to secure properly. Slipped out of my fingers, fell on the hard wood floor onto the retracted pushpin mounts, they all broke. DAM. Where am I going to find this old mount? Hmmm. Look at ToolKit, grab 4 #10 course thread 3/4" screws, through the cpu cooler turn into pushpin holes in motherboard. Hey that feels pretty solid. Fire it up, been working flawlessly for weeks. Going to replace this machine before T2 , but kept it in the game till I can upgrade.
 
Had the same problem, you can still get the push connectors.
Just put an Arctic cooler 13 in, much easier. Little plastic frame onto the mobo with push ins, you can see what your doing. The cooler screws to the frame.
Depends what your running, may not need to replace.
I'm not until I find mine struggles.
The intel 1156, 1150, 1155 and 1366 sockets use the same mounts.

I've had those stupid things break too. For some reason the plastic push things don't always grab well and tend to loosen up over time. I like the idea of screwing the heatsink right down to the motherboard. That's the way it should be done in the first place.

The frame uses the same 4 pins to hold it down but just push down, no problem.
The older type which turned to the left to loosen from the board were a pain, you had to make sure they were turned back to connect securely to the mobo, I think maybe that's where a lot of folk ( me included) had loose heatsinks.
The heatsink then (on the new type) screws to the frame then you clip the fan to that. A little more time but more secure.

I replaced my stock cooler with a big Cool Master heatskink. This really works well, but what a pain in the backside to put on. The instruction sheet is a B-sized print-out with various possible mounting options which go with different processors, styles, and socket types. This is well and good, but the other problem is each line is in multiple languages. I have a tough enough problem seeing now, as my arms aren't long enough to see anything. The text was about the size of tiny black ants, and I kept getting lost because the first line in each instruction step was in Russian. :)

May I recommend the professor gadget (of wacky races) style LED headlamp (hinged) with elasticated headband. You may like I do look as mad as a box of frogs wearing it but you can see what previously you only thought you were doing !!
