SnC into TRS2010

Recently I bought an HP laptop with windows 7 64bit. I installed TRS2010 then the three service packs. No problems – it ran fine. I then installed SnC but unfortunately it didn’t find TRS2010 so I didn’t get the option to install into TRS2010 as against standalone. I thus installed it as a standalone, again, no problems it ran fine. I had read in a thread that I can copy the S&C.ja file into the built in folder of TRS2010, do a database repair and then enter the serial number in the options - add CD window and I should have S&C in TRS2010. Unfortunately when I enter the serial code in the relevant options window it says invalid CD key. Well it isn’t invalid as the program runs fine as a standalone! I haven’t made a mistake copying as I have done it several times as well as two new installs! It worked fine on my old shuttle computer under windows XP with no probs - it gave me the option of standalone or into TRS2010. I don't have any earlier versions of Trainz on so it can't be confused as to which version to install into! Any insights into what the problem might be will be and a way forward would be much appreciated.

Kind regards to everyone

It appears that when you add the serial it checks to see if the relevant files are present.

Did you copy the files over, and are they in the right place, before adding the serial?

Mike.

Thanks Mike

The only file I copied over was the S&C.ja into the builtin folder. Strangely enough 5 buidings are showing up in objects but no rolling stock. I wasn't sure what else to copy across - the thread I read only mentioned copying the s&c ja file across. What else needs to be copied across!?

So if I have copied the right file across and put it into the correct place, the problem for me is how do I get it to recognise the CD serial no'!? I've done the right thing according to the thread & instructions I followed.

Hi Yorkshire

I think that the thread that you refer to would be one that I replied to last week with this suggestion to copy the .ja file. It was something I read about some time ago (by Mike10 I think) and I have used it succesfully two or three times since. Have you patched the .ja file before copying it across? This is the only thing that I can think of that might be causing this problem as it may be looking for the original build number instead of the patched one.

Hi Brian

Yes I think it probably was the thread you responded to. I am sure I actually only applied the patches to TRS2010 - not to TC3. Not sure where to go from here! As I said - there are 5 station buildings showing in surveyor but no rolling stock or engines - which means something has got in! Perhaps if I (yet again) load TRS2010 without the patches then TC3 - it might work. If it does I can patch later. Thanks for the response.

......load TRS2010 without the patches then TC3 - it might work......

You can't load TC3 into TS2010 by this method, it only works with the S&C 2009 add on. You can install TC3 content into TS2010 but it's a bit more complicated and you will have to fix a good few content "errors". Easier to buy the S&C 2009 add on pack download!

Hi again

When you say that the SnC couldn't find TS2010 did you point it manually to the installation? I have TS2010 on my F:\ drive and patches etc never find it themselves. There is a button with three dots on just above the main box where it tells you what's going on. If you press the button you can then manually find the path to the TS2010 installation.

Hi Brian

Yes I tried that the first (of three!) time and what happened was that TC3 over wrote TRS2010 including the screen icon. When I tried to open the program instead of getting the TRS2010 menu window it brought up TC3 opening menu selection - you know, the one that says advanced utilities etc. That's when I started trying the copy across method. As I say I had no probs in the past on my shuttle PC with windows XP - and I do want to get the locos and rolling stock into TRS2010. Upwards and forwards!! I shall try later in the week when I have a good time slot.

Thanks again

I had assumed you were moving TS2009:SnC. If moving TC3 across you need to open everything for edit in TC3 and then Import Content in TS2010 CM and point it at the TC3 editing folder..... it is going to take a while to commit everything.

You'll also end up with quite a few errors to fix. It may be easier to buy the Snc add-on ;)

Mike.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and help. I feel such a twit. I have just discovered that I bought the original disk version and later the addon version that Mike has just suggested that I buy! I had forgotten that and have mistakenly been trying to place the disk version in the TRS2010 - call it a senior moment!

Again thanks for all responses - I am sure I will get it in now while throwing sideways glance to the England match!!!
