Hello!
Since it's winter, I dusted off Trainz and some rather unsettling issues have surfaced. In driver mode, after changing the train display, sometimes a blank screen appears with smooth terrain covered only by textures. Sometimes, more features appear, but mostly the tracks are missing. If I press pause for a moment, everything quickly reappears and everything is fine. But if I don't pause, it can be a complete wasteland for a while. I thought it was my graphics card (GTX 1650 Super) because it was constantly running at 100% capacity, even though it had plenty of memory. The maximum was about 3 GB, and it has 4 GB. Then I also tested the hard drive, but in this case, the TRS is on an M2 NVMe drive, which is quite fast. Finally, I decided to upgrade the graphics card. I bought an RTX 5060 Ventus, and as it turns out, these intermittent performance issues still occur. They may not be as long, but they do exist. The frame rate has definitely improved, as I'm now averaging around 50, although there are times when it drops to 20 fps in dense urban environments. Performance has also improved significantly, as while the CPU is running at around 40%, the graphics are running at around 50%. Sometimes it can jump to 70%. However, I had a strange exception here. On my rather large map, at one point, the graphics card's performance dropped to 20%, the CPU to 15%, and the frame rate to 13. The map could take up over 6 GB of graphics card memory, and the computer also took up 16 GB of RAM. Only when I switched to surveyor mode did it return to normal. Has anyone else noticed something similar and figured out what might be causing these temporary screen glitches? I think it might be due to the slower loading of these millions of tiny files. As we know, hard drives, even SSDs, read small files much slower than large ones. Does anyone have any insight into this? Is TRS22 really that demanding of a simulator? What kind of hardware would be needed for it to run smoothly and efficiently on every map?
