Silly Operation, Incomplete

Situation: TS2009, double-tracked mainline with crossovers at either end of a platform (some distance away, to allow for long trains). A train consisting of two powered M/U coaches is at the platform. Lines are equipped with 05 and L02 signals (block limits are the two crossovers).

The AI driver, in the lead M/U coach, is issued a "Run around train" command. He uncouples from the trailing coach, obediently runs around on the wrong main, but freezes in crossing over to the right main again. Reason: track ahead occupied by another train. (This problem doesn't arise when a pair of locomotives pulling a train of unpowered cars is ordered to run around - they uncouple behind the second unit, run around together, and couple to the train as expected.)

Since the coaches are double-ended there's no reason to do this in normal operations, but if there were, how would you do it? Is there a helper-oriented driver command that will let the locomotive running around approach and couple with another train which is/contains a powered vehicle? Would splitting the block help? Just wondering.

Possibly:

Uncouple (loco).
Drive to Trackmark (wrong line, clear of crossover).
Couple (to the rear vehicle in the consist).

worth a try anyway......
