Silly A.I. Drivers again and container train problems

hi all i have a layout with six tracks that run parallel to one another. from left to right: 2 up , 2 down (goods) 1 down 1 up (passenger) the problem is that the whenever a train has left the mainline to go to an industry ect when they go to rejoin the mainline they say the is no path for that destination even though there is.

another problem i have is that one ai driver changes the switches but some of them dont change them at all leading to my coal train ending up in a forrestry!

also is there a way that alows a higher prioritary train to jump in front of a lower one and change the switches to what it wants mine just sit there saying no path to destination then i move a switch or two and ther off again

On another note is there a way to make up a container train i made one up used the container flats own loader in the properties saved it as a consist and i got an unloaded one instead so is there a way to have a loaded container consist?

Thanks in advance
Nathan

To get a loaded container consist you would need to clone the wagon(s) and create a loaded version. Loads are saved in session data, not in the route or consist tab.

On the AI thing on the whole I find it pretty reliable. If the AI claims there is no path there usually isn't, or it must be very convoluted.

If the coal train ends up in the forestry the driver commands sent it there, have a look at what you asked the train to do and where it went astray. I guarantee a route or session problem....

There is no path can also mean there are too many switches to set in one block or the switches are too far apart within one block. I think the max is at 5 (not sure about the distance), and then the AI gets rather confuzzled.

You also may have to have a look at the route in Surveyor: if a train can't see anything but track marks pointing towards it, then the AI doesn't see a path either.

thanks guys i think i found the problem, on the switches thing is that in one location across all tracks or only on the track that it is on?

You can try adding a few extra trackpoints and then issue one or more 'via trackpoint' commands. A bit of a pain but it should work if all the tracks are set up properly.

All switches in the block ahead of the train (when the train is stopped at a red signal: all switches that the train can reach in the signal block behind that red signal). If that makes any sense? It's the best I can do on describing what I mean, I think. :)

What Dreadnought said. There is also the possibilities to use the set path rule, but that takes a large amount of time to set up, and some layouts it just isn't worth the hassle in my opinion. However, when you do get it to work, you can make it work close to a prototypical operation. :)

With the containers you can use the instant load and instant unload rules, available on the DLS. Handy if you are bringing consists from a portal. They will always come out in their original state, regardless of any mods you make unless they are in the config for the unit.

Have you tried direction arrows with multiple tracks, if so check they are positioned correctly.
I was driven mad once trying to get a train to cross over and enter an industry from the down track til I found I had placed the arrow on the wrong side of a switch.

Cheers,
Mike.

thanks guys found the problems and now everything is great

Except now my AI trains are derailing each other fo example my log train was about to move out from the forrestry siding onto the main track it has a red signal because a coal train is using the main line, next thing i know it has changed the lever derailed the coalie and then attemps to take off! I couldnt believe this so i ran it again and this time another one derailed what can i do?? :'(

Thanks in advance
Nathan

it might be a track that is not connected right where they meeet up with another part of the track
