Signalling Help

Hi! I've been working on my own fictional route and have been using JR's SafeTran signals extensively. However, I really don't know if I'm using the correct ones in the correct spots. I've tried searching all around for when to use 04's, 08-1's vs 08's, etc. but I cannot seem to find a definitive guide or rule book. If someone knows of one and could please point me in that direction that would be great... Because at this point it's mostly guess work for me (except left and right divergences, I've got those!). Thanks!

Crude rule-of-thumb guide to which you will find plenty of exceptions:

04 - used where there is only one possible route in front of the signal
06 - used where a junction splits the track into two possible routes in front of the signal
08 - used where several junctions with several possible routes are in front of the signal

05 - used along continuous track with no junctions to create 'blocks' and increase line capacity
06 Distant - repeats the next signal along the line where there are sighting issues or extra warning is required.
G or 'Grade' Signal - used on steep uphill tracks where heavy trains might stall at red lights.

Note that none of the above is exactly right, but it will get you going and nothing will look 'wrong'. Googling things like "USA Signaling" will get you lots of exact proto advice...

Awesome, thank you! That cleared up a good bit of my confusion! I searched that in google and have found some good stuff, so thanks again.

I'm really only left with still wondering about 08 vs. 08-1 signals... I can't seem to find anything definitive on that yet.
