Signal light placement question(s?)

I "kind" of got the hang of placing signals near junctions, and I can "kind" of get them to work, but.....

I have problems understanding why I cant place them where I want them.

If I create a line and build a siding off it, I can place the signals (using Safetran NS Signal Dwarf, but have tried others) on the right hand side just into the junction. and on the right hand side just before the end of the siding. Normal.

What I can't get to work is when I am facing the other direction I can not get any signals placed anywhere. I'm sure its a me thing but I cant seem to figure out how to place them. Its as if I can only place them in the direction that I placed the track. That would make sense if its a one way system but I dont think thats what I have here. How does one get the signals for two way traffic in place? I tried modeling existing routes, and even modifying them but for me it doesnt work.

HELP!?!?!
Thanks!

yes, the signals do place facing the direction the track is laid. but there is a button on the trackside objects menu called rotate object that will flip the lights to face the other direction. button looks looks a ring or a loop symbol

Signals default to either the left hand side of the track or the right hand side of the track. USA sigs default to the right. If you are using the safetran sigs they all have a version with 'Left' in the title, those are for use in situations where the signal needs to be on the 'wrong' side. Not all signal creators provide right/left alternate versions, but the safetrans do.

By using right/left sigs and the rotate button it is possible to get safetran signals facing the correct way in all four possible positions...

so frustrating, I think I am asking wrong.
Its not that the switch is going on the wrong side so much as it isnt going in at all. It as if the game (ts2012) is ignoring my "clicks", which leads me to believe I am trying something not supported. In theory though it seems that what I want is quite normal.

If I have 4 lanes coming out of a coal mine I can place a Signal USA 04 just after each lane ok (and on the correct side too!) Then I need to bring the lines together to exit the area. Thats where I run into trouble...
4 into 2 into one. I have tried to place different signals all over the area, before and after the junctions to the left and right. way close, or way out. Nada.
Is there a guide that clearly spells out the proper placement of these animals?

are you placing them in the session layer or route layer?
doin something in one then tryin to change it in another wont work.....?

Are you sure that your repeated clicks aren't in exactly the same spot? This will place a 2nd (and 3rd, etc.) signal in the exact same place as the first and it will seem as if nothing is happening when you click. Be sure to move the mouse before adding the second signal so you can clearly see both. Then use the rotate command to move one of them to the other side of the track.

Incidentally, I found out the hard way that inadvertantly placing too many multiple switch levers (not signals) on the exact same spot can crash Trainz 2010--at least it did for me...

maximum of three tracks coming together in (at) one switch,

so for four you will have to have two switches:

Line
|
sig
|
Switch 1
| ........ \
| ......... sig
| ........... \
| ............ \
| ............. \
| ............... \
Switch 2 ...... \
| ... \ .... \ ..... \
| ..... \ .... \ ..... \
sig ... sig .. sig ... |
| ..... | .... | ..... |

umm... this might seem simple to some, but have you tried adding a spline point and then adding the signal ( presuming that you're looking for a dwarf signal)?

In the scenario given above:
Line
|
sig
|
Switch 1
| ........ \
| ......... sig
| ........... \
| ............ \
| ............. \
| ............... \
Switch 2 ...... \
| ... \ .... \ ..... \
| ..... \ .... \ ..... \
sig ... sig .. sig ... |
| ..... | .... | ..... |

there would be no signal between switch 1 and switch 2?
Can all the above signaals be safetran dwarf, or do I need to use a variant? (Safetran dwarf siding I think its called?)
