Hi, everyone.

Well, I have some new models.

The first one includes an engine I may have shown before but the picture compares a modified Tri-ang Fowler 3F to a more recent Hornby one. Which do you prefer?

Now onto the truly new items.

These items are ones I have on loan from the model train club. I was allowed to take them home to restore them and give them any attention they need.

First of all are two green Tri-ang coal waggons. They need their wheels replaced to run on more modern track but it is not a job I am able to do.

Second are two Tri-ang coaches which may have had their wheels replaced already as they run very well. There's nothing I need to do to them.

Last is a Hornby Thomas. This model didn't run when I took it home but it turned out that all it was were two crossed wires causing a short. Easily fixed.

It also comes in its original box. One buffer is missing but I have a friend with a replacement he's willing to give me.

Thomas is otherwise in near-mint condition and hasn't been out of the Club cupboard in nearly twenty-five years!

The items I have on loan from the Club are items I may also be able to buy off the Club next year.

I haven't been able to get a good photo of the Club's shunting layout "Suggitt's Siding" because two kids are always hogging it, but when I get a chance I'll photograph it. It's a really entertaining puzzle. It even presented a bit of a challenge to one of the Club members who used to be a shunter for Queensland Rail.

I'll be supervising the layout at next year's Brisbane Model Train Show and all Brisbanites should come down and have a go - it'll be open for the public to have a go at!

Something I bought of ebay cheap early Nov, got it 2 days ago.

I originally bought the Tweetsie set, but the guy said it was damaged after I had already paid, so he sent me these instead, I'm not complaining though, I can just changed the road to D&RGW :) .

I know the Tweetsie set had a flangeless center driver and the real one is flange, is it the same with the real one of this loco? If it has a flange I'm hoping I'll be able to replace the whole axle with a flange one.

Cheers.

So I did a thing:

As of 5:00 pm MST, this is what all of the pieces looked like:

The truss span and its supports had been completed yesterday.

One of three truss span supports:

Maybe once my camera gets repaired, i'll be able to show what my anuual Christmas train layout is for this year. It's not under the tree though (space constraints).

Keep calm and keep an eye out,

Progress as of 11:30 MST:

The only thing left to do is determine how this will fit into the club's train layout, then add the stringers.

Hi everyone!

I went back down to the Club today and photographed Suggitt's Siding. The layout is Australian themed but it is currently run with American rolling stock, with the motive power being an SD9 (or is it an SD7?). The model train show operation will be carried out by the current set of rolling stock accompanied by the SD9 and a steam tank engine with a match wagon (provided so that the small steam engine doesn't provide an advantage over the diesel).

As it is a shunting puzzle and not all the correct types of rolling stock are currently available in the club's stock inventory (container, timber, etc.), we have resorted to using pieces of paper with a number on them to label the rolling stock. They will probably be Blu-Tacked on soon in preparation for the 2015 Brisbane Model Train Show.

The layout fascia was recently painted and a backscene is currently in production. The wood for the backscene was measured and cut today.

Please enjoy the selection of images I have prepared. Note also the throttle-like device in the centre of the layout; it is actually the controller for the train!

(Some shots depict the start of shunting movements and others depict the end)

(Sorry if this makes you jealous at all, Rick!)

No you're not, and yes it does! I love it!! Great shots of some real nice work. I'm having a hard time trying to force myself to work on the route for the last week or so (working on very boring stuff). I'm getting a coffee and have a look at ALL the shots in here. Thanks Kieran and the rest of you. Keep the shots coming, It's a very nice way for me to pass some time when I just can't seem to get going!

Cheers .... Rick
I do feel a little guilty about this particular layout.

It was found in the Club's storage container and I've had no part in its construction and only a small input in its resurrection, yet I now get to look after it at next year's model train show. Seems rather unfair.

I guess it's all part of teamwork and the perks of being in a club. :p

Perhaps, Rick, there's a club in your area you could join. If you love working with balsa wood and castings then I'm sure your experience would be invaluable. There are a few members at my Club who don't bring trains down for various reasons and just work on the Club's layouts.

We've now got the big permanent layout, a smaller DCC-fitted layout for show (hopefully this coming year), an N-scale layout that's under construction, another N-scale layout that was found and still needs to be tested, and Suggitt's Siding.

As one of the young members I am learning useful things such as soldering, and I have been able to help out by drawing the puzzle sheet up on the computer, which is something I am able to do but not one that many other members can. So there's always areas in which one can contribute.

GN1996:

That bridge sure seems like a huge pain in the you-know-what to build, but I am sure that it will all be worth it once painted up and in place on a layout. Please post some more photos of it as progress continues.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! (large images)

May I wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year!

Here is my new addition to my slowly growing model railway collection - Hornby's (R1179) limited edition OO gauge train-set available just for Christmas 2014.
UK RRP is £69.99 but I got it at a sale price of just £49.99 at Beales Department Store in King's Lynn, Norfolk yesterday (20th December)

*He he he (or Ho! Ho! Ho!) my Trainz12 driver's manual making a sneek appearance into the photo :)

Not able to run any of my Hornby & Bachmann diesels lately until I can get round to re-wiring my shelf-top mini layout. It needs re-wiring with some new 12v twincore door-bell cable along with a DPDT switch (to prevent the switch in my Gaugemaster controller from wearing out).

My new Santa Express, however, will be put away back in the box after New Year as I want to keep the special loco and its wagons in pristine condition.

Do you have your "Show _ Posts per Page" option in your user settings different? I have mine set to 20, so i see 21 pages.

Keep calm and try it out,
Well hot damn, I do have it set to 40 posts per page. I must have done that quite some time ago as I do prefer to scroll through a long page than keep clicking and loading.

That certainly explains a lot....

Thanks. :)
