Shared Block Controller

what's a normal map?
I am nearly ready to upload a remake of an old item from long ago that fell out of use as it did not function properly as of late.

When you wish to set up a simple crossing or other such feature and do not need the headache or level of control that comes with setting up the full EIT system with paths and such you can use this little item. It works by setting up a shared block with a list of signals and will cause the configured signals to share occupancy detection with 2 simple rules:
1. If a signal detects a train in it's block all signals in the list will be set to red.
2. If a train clears a path through one of the signals, the remaining in the list will be set to red.

For a diamond crossing situation, it can be set as follows using 2 controllers and linking 2 entries to the block on one and 2 on the other:

There are many other possible combinations and set-ups and is a very flexible item, but the item will not stop you from making a mistake in your choice, so for instance if you set 2 opposing signals to share a block you are making an impossible situation where they can never clear. Maybe later on there can be fail-safes against that, but just don't do it, it makes no sense anyway.

Ohh..... possibilities... Now I'll need to download more stuff, darn it. Well maybe I can run an errand or two in the mean time.
The amount of signal logic I've learned in/through Trainz does disturb some of my co-workers, as T&E guys don't generally have a good understanding of the why unless they started over in the signal department.

Justin, how would you set up the Signal Shared Block Controller in this instance. The ATV driver drives over two tracks and now, as I have it set up, it just passes thru the consists without stopping.

hmmm - a fake rail crossing? I am not sure this is the correct application. You could do this, but the ATV would be able to stop the trains as well so there is really no correct way to do it.

Dave, are you making a drivable route for a car knocker (carman) or the like? So the mechanical Dept, can go out and "fix" stuff?

No, I already have a driveable ATV with a Driver. He just roams around my Yard on invisible track. He performs no function other than phasing right through the consists as they go by. I was hoping I could make him stop for the trains. Oh well.

By the way, Thanks Justin for looking at my situation.

Ah.. I was just guessing it was to represent that small vehicle traffic that comes from inspections, moving crews, an the like. Good luck with it...

Perhaps the ATLS system may be able to help you there, or the ASB crossovers, both by boat. Paulzmay has a number of tram routes on the DLS where the Trams will get a red signal if there is a train crossing over a crossing in front of them.
