Setting permissions in windows 7 64 bit

Slave to my route
I have my new Trainz rig home and setting up TS 2012. I need to fix some assets but I'm running into a problem trying to save my edits. I get an error saying I need to go into "properties" and unlock the file. Doing a Google search I found something about permissions and taking ownership. After a few tries no luck. Can someone get me a hand on this new 64 bit rig?

Home premium? Write Permissions have been restricted by Microsoft for anything in a Microsoft created folder such as program files and Program files (x86) and they have made it pretty difficult to fix as they did not include the full files for changing permissions in Win7 below Win7 Pro, it can be done but easier to do as below.

You really needed to Install run and patch Trainz as Administrator in Win7, that avoids the permissions problems you get if you install it in program files.

However, Right click the Trainz icon, Properties, Compatibility, Run this program as an administrator, apply should get things working.
You may find if this doesn't help you need to do this for all the Trainz executable files including the ones in the bin folder.

Ideally it should have been installed in it's own folder, say C:\N3V\Trainz or another drive or installed as administrator initially if in program files.

Administrator account has been crippled in Home Premium by the way, which is why you have to set in properties or specifically tell by right click run as administrator, each program you need run as Admin, even if you are running an Admin account, most annoying!

I install all my applications and run them as administrator no matter what version of W7 I use. This solves any weird issues that may occurr with older software that is not written specifically for W7.

When I installed TS12, I did just as Malc did. I have a C:\Auran folder and that is my destination for TS12 and TS2010. The added advantage to this is if I decide to move my installation to an external drive or another computer, I simply grab that simple folder path rather than searching through c:\program files\(x86)\ and subdirectories to find what I need to copy.

The other thing too is since I have TS12 isntalled in the same location on both my laptop and desktop, copying and replacing the data does not affect the registry settings because the paths are the same.
