Session help

First of all, what exactly is saved in a session? Secondly, I've notices on CMP that my route has a ton of saved sessions, but all I've done is edit the route. Do I need all these sessions?

It depends on what kind of 'saved session' you're talking about, a newly created session or an existing session that you were running.
Saving a newly create session saves every action that you made while in Surveyor.
Saving an existing session that you were running saves any session settings you've made and the current positions of all objects in the route.

As to the accumulation of sessions resulting from editing a route, it depends on the settings you've choosen in the Save Route panel shown below.

Note that selecting 'Save new route and session' will create another route and a session. Selecting 'Create new session' will cause another session to be created.

I select overwrite route and session when I save, but I still get a massive buildup of sessions. If a session saves the positions of objects on a route, what is saved under the route? Geographic features?

Exactly the same with me. Whenever I edit my route I get a new session, and yet when I save it, I tell Surveyor to replace the existing route and session. I begin to suspect that whenever I edit my route Surveyor starts by creating a new session.
This is TS2010 build 42203.
Any help? Thanks in advance,
Thierry

Hmm, when I create a new route I allways create a named session as well on the very first dialog that comes up. After that when I want to edit my route further I never go for edit route, but for edit session instead. The only thing to remember with this approach is to immediately change to a route layer before you start your actual editing.
Needless to say I never had "tons of sessions" doing it this way.:hehe:
