Seriously stupid question.

Hello everyone. I bought Trainz 2010 about two weeks ago and I've slowly been figuring things out in surveyor mode. I've gotten decent, but there is one thing I can't seem to figure out. It's a very simple thing, but I just can't seem to find any information about it on the internet, and my game came with no manual. So here goes. How do you get overhead catenary wires to follow the track they're above? Do you just add a lo of splines or what? I don't have a problem with straight sections, but when I try to place one over a curve the wire just goes straight. I have no DLC, and no updates or anything. I'm sorry for asking such a dumb question, I really am.

Ignoring the seriously unhelpful answers above...

The simple answer is take a look at how Downtown Traction does it.

A more complex answer would be to identify which catenary system you are using. If a spline align the splines of the catenary with the splines of the track should do the trick.

You might want to consider registering your product with N3V which would give you access to a bunch of free add-on content.

Good luck!

Catenary wires on curves are not curves, due to that being impossible without an infinite number of supports on a curve. The way it's done in the UK is, for example on a two-track alignment with the supports on the outside of the tracks (by the undergrowth, rather than in the 4-foot) is to have pull off supports on the inside track, and push off supports on the outside track. This is because, as an EMU/Electric locomotive travels around a curve the pantograph is generally not over the centre of the track, due to the train's overhang on the inside, and so the wires need to be on the 'inside' of the curve relative to the track to match the pantograph on the train. This is why pull offs are used on the inside line, to pull the wire to the inside of the centreline, and why push offs are used on the outside line, to push the wire to the inside of the centreline.

If this doesn't help, feel free to inbox me and I'll create a bit of a demo for you. I would strongly advise registering your product though.

Also welcome to the forums :)

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.
my game came with no manual
Check your disks for a PDF as there is a manual that comes with TS2010.

Notice a few of the previous reactions. You will get more of those or none at all as long as you did not register your game to your account. To do so, follow this link:
https://www.auran.com/planetauran/SN_Enter_Serialnumber.php

Since you just installed a new game, you probably did not patch it yet. For patches, follow this link:

Couldn't find a similar thread ... so I'll ask a really seriously stupid question.

You know how most locos have a cab view, and in DCC they have a speed control dial ... etc ...

What is it that causes a loco to not have a cab view, and not have a DCC speed control dial ?

How can I correct this, and get a cab view, and a DCC speed control dial ?

I tried switching the interior, and the config file says: kind traincar, engine 1 ... still no DCC speed control dial

Probably deliberately set up not to use DCC, happens on some Steam Loco's done by a script I think.

Missing cab view? maybe never had one or the attachment point is missing.
