seems my integrated ati 4200 graphics aren't worth a you know what with trainz

Just make sure that 'Triple Buffering' is turned off.

The “triple buffering” option does nothing with DirectX games that don't support it. It will however smooth out the frame rate when running in OpenGL.

Here is a good explanation of the settings in the ATI Catalyst Control Center -

You NEED DirectX 9c, even if you already have DirectX 11.

If you are running on Vista or Windows 7 you DON'T need DirectX 9c since you already have it because of DirectX 10&11 backward compatibility.

What you do NEED is to update your DirectX files either by the Web Installer -

or by using the redistributable -

Just had a read of the TrainzDiag log - there are a couple of concerns.

Firstly, it's reporting that the video card driver is 9 months old - I know that the drivers are normally updated fairly frequently. (See http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx for the download page - you will need to select your graphics card from the list (based on the information given, you will be looking under Integrated Motherboard Graphics)

Secondly, do make sure that you have indeed got the latest DirectX (June 2010) version - this can make a difference on how Trainz works.

You try what I said about defraging your computer and run disk clean I know if you have not done it ever then your computer will run really slow

I mean look here what I am running and it runs fine I Have a Dell optiplex gx 270 with 2.8ghz processer pentium 4 with ATI HD 3850 with 512 memory my computer has 1gb on Windows Xp of memory in it and runs so if my 5 year old computer works then your newer old show work way better

I defragged it twice this morning before I posted that new report
there just has to be some way to get this stuttering out of it...............

Open GL runs I would say 80% stutter free. It's most noticeable with the free roaming camera.
In directx mode it still just flat stutters no matter what camer you are using

2009 v41844
it acted the same on the patch below this (40400 I think). Since I was patching on this re-install, figured I would grab both of them this time.

I even tested to see if it stuttered before I added my content, and it did. So I figure it has nothing to do with content

There is a possibility that SP4 (44653) may improve things, but there are several known bugs (see the TS2009 SP4: Bugs thread for the details)

yeh, I've read. I'm hesitant to go any further patching wise at the moment.
Like I said, the rest of the sim is fast as lightning now with the new drivers...it just makes no sense.
