searching for route

the routes in trainz are all too cheap, and ive looked and tried many routes ive found and they either have missing dependancies or some other thing. what im looking fvor is some sort of metro stype route, multiple junctions and branch lines, lots of automated stations so that a peak hour scenario can be ran. does anyone know of a route like this? like 50 stations .

Just curious: How can something be "too cheap"?

Either all the passenger routes either don't have automated stations (RB, Harlem, the england one), are demo versions of routes that will probably soon be outdated (settle/carsile), or don't have any meaningful configuration of track (all of the above). I am prepared to pay for routes, however not at the present situation.

Try using the "Create Route" on the "Select Route" page that way you will get exactly what you are looking for.
Ooooo, smart one. I completely forgot about that! Thanks for reminding me.
Yeah, bomberswarm2, try that one.

Side effect is that 'soon' that will be your main source of routes anyway.

Mr. Bomberswarm2,

I can see that you are new here. Are you saying that even with the thousands of routes on the DLS, which are uploaded for free by the community, you can't find anything that suits your taste? As has been suggested by Mr. Evans here, I too suggest making a route yourself. The process is very rewarding and very much a whole different aspect of this hobby than just driving around on an already created route. This is akin to buying the bits and pieces and building kits and laying track on a model railroad rather than buying on of those premade model layouts from Bachmann or Atlas that already has the track, trees, and other bits in place.

Route building is very time consuming and the process can take months, or even years to complete a route, but like any model railroad or other work of art, the route is never truly complete. There are always things that can be changed, added, or removed, which brings up another point. You can always edit downloaded routes to give you what you want. This works for all routes on the DLS, however, it is not applicable to the DLC purchased from N3V.

Regarding the missing dependencies. This happens, and sadly it is due to how the software works. The assets are all listed in Surveyor without any indication whether they are from an external source, built-in, or from the DLS. Yes, we can show KUIDs, which are colored depending upon whether they are installed, your own, or built-in, however, there is still no discernable difference between installed and external, DRM or built-in. Having said this, a route builder may have installed the Skipton to Carlisle route then made use of the stations from it. If the user had set the option to display KUIDS, he would see yellow numbers for built-in assets. The problem is the yellow color also applies to DLC from N3V which makes uploading these components (assets) impossible. The same with external content, or that obtained from a third-party off the DLS website. The user will see red numbers and know the stuff came from a third-party site or was modified, but there is no way of knowing where it came from unless he has the memory found in a Cray computer. With hundreds of thousands of assets, it is impossible for one to remember where something comes from, so hence the user will have placed an asset obtained from some long forgotten website, and sadly the source its self is no longer available. To compound matters, even if the parts were available, they need to be searched for and installed manually. At the present time, Content Manager does not search external sites for assets, so if anything is not uploaded to the DLS in the first place, it will not be found by Content Manager.

So before you become too harsh on the community, I hope this clarifies the issue.

Disagree. I find absolutely no joy in searching to the far ends of the Universe for the elusive missing dependencies.

True. And there are a few of us who either only use built-in and Downland Station assets in routes (like me) or who provide the links to external download sites.

They may not be of the exact type that you want but if you search the DLS with "philskene" as the author and use Content Manager to capture all the dependences you will have a full and complete route.

Be advised though, my main interest are smaller "smokestack USA" industrial switching routes, like this (best watched full screen and in HD):

Of course not all are model railroadz. But they are meant to be fun.

TS2010 actually had some pretty good built in routes, Avery to Drexel immediately springs to mind, along with the Germn route and the ECML (which has been expanded for TS12 and again for TANE) is a fantastic achievement.

With regard to assets in user created routes, I am also one of those who tries hard to ensure only built in or DLS items are used. (not really into doing internet scavenger hunts). Also, can't remember if it happens in TS2010 but it certainly does in TS12, CMP doesn't always grab all the assets on the first pass, particularly when those items also have their own dependencies. You may need to run the download a couple of times, even go through and view the dependencies then for any that are showing missing dependencies, run those seperately again.

Well I spent about 6 hours last night building the track and terrain of a small route. But how do I place an underground track?
I would also have great appreation if somebody could tell me the best way of laying overhead wiring. Is there an easier way than doing it manually? Also, if there is a tunnel with overhead wiring not 3rd rail, that would be great.
Thanks.

I love searching for missing, un-locatable kuids, it's like a challenge for me ... You (and anyone) can always PM me, or Skype me, and I will try my best to help.

By Underground track I ment a city loop with stations underground....
Not just some tunnel.

There are subway (underground) stations and tunnels available by various content creators. To bury them under your city, you and place them and then put land over them. You will then need a dig-hole asset, which is built-in to open up the ends. If you don't want to bury the rails, you can always put splines over the tops of the tunnels. There are various kinds ranging from asphalt to grass.
