I am not comfortable with these instructions for adding the patch:
Please note - To avoid any complications while patching, we recommend doing the following:
Please clear out the Temp folder on your computer. When you are ready to install the patch, disconnect your internet connection and shut down all programs (including anti-virus and similar). Now run the patch. We recommend that you leave the patch to install overnight, and that you do not use the computer whilst the patch is being installed. You may also want to try installing the patch under Safe Mode in Windows.
Dick,
It's not as difficult as you think.
The easiest way to clear the temporary files is using Microsoft's built-in Disk Clean-up utility.
This is found in the:
Start Menu
Click on Programs (All Programs for Windows 7)
Click Accessories
Click on System Tools.
In there is the Disk Clean-up.
1) Select the drive to clean-up (default it C: )
This is where the temp files are anyway.
2) Click on OK
The program will scan
3) In the list, check the boxes.
4) Click OK.
The program will run...
When this is done, we can now install the patch.
You need to choose the correct one. (not difficult either).
1) Start Trainz and note the build number in the lower right hand corner of the Launcher screen.
2) Exit the program.
3) Follow Shane's link for the patches for TS2010 and choose the correct patch for your version.
http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php/trainzpatchlinks
4) Download the patch to your hard drive. You can save this to your desktop if you wish so you can find it easily.
5) Disable your antivirus. It's not always necessary, but it is recommended when patching.
6) Run the patch.
For Windows 7, it is recommended that you install the patch as administrator.
1) Right-click on the patch utility.
2) Choose Run as Administrator.
3) Click Yes to run it.
The reason for running this overnight is because the patching process can take a very long time, so to ensure you don't touch anything, including browsing on the network, or checking email, we recommend that you run this overnight. If you were to cancel the patch because it looks like it has hung, you'll have to reinstall everything from scratch.
During the patching process, there will be a prompt about running a database scan/checking for updates. Let this process complete, otherwise you'll have problems later.
This should do it. Feel free to ask questions, and by all means don't be afraid to PM me if you need additional assistance.
Note: I just remembered that there is an update for Murchison as well. Ensure you have the latest version if you have not downloaded that one already.
