Screenshot of the Week: Vote For Week Of 1-16

Tough choices...my votes...

JAMEZ001

WCL

Michael Evans

The two main reasons for my votes are that they didn't stick a bunch of weeds in my face, and didn't lay down on the ground to take the screenshot. :D Sorry...but I think those approaches are becoming a bit overdone. Just my humble opinion...

Cheers,
Fred

What weeds?

Come now...that's not very typical of railways in general...just unused sidings. But...to each his own. :D

Cheers,
Fred

Fred,

You've got me worried.....you see 90% of my route is weeds. How can I post screenies of my route without weeds?

I feel like I have to post allergy warnings now before I show any more screen shots :D :D

See below:
Fred, have a heart. Look at the conditions our RR employees have to deal with day in and day out.

I didn't mean anything personal, Jim. For every picture shown of tracks overgrown by vegetation, however, a thousand pics could be posted of tracks surrounded by bare ballast and gravel. Plants don't hold up to the constant passage of multi-thousand ton machines moving at speed very well. My comment was merely attempting to note that the use of grass along the right of way is generally unrealistic. In special cases, of course, it would be appropriate...ahhh...choooo! :D

Cheers,
Fred

:D Fred, I'm just having fun with ya!

All kidding aside, I agree that you are usually not going to see much vegetation between the rails on a normal, main line right of way.

Cheers to you!

Are those workers looking for snakes or running trains???

Well..........both, but mainly trying to clear the tracks. If you look real hard, you'll see a fellow named Gus out there with a weed wacker. .............eh?...................no, I can't see him either.

Being you mentioned snakes, I keep my eyes open for Western Hognose or Ratsnakes.

They're both a friendly species once they get to know ya and have nice markings. About a hundred yards or so south of here (Longmont, CO), there's a semi active, but rundown BNSF yard (former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy) that is a combo of tall weeds, broken concrete foundations, and piles of railroad ties. It's a perfect environment for snake habitats. A herpetologists' paradise if you like indigenous Colorado snakes.

Thanks for your votes! This is quite an honor! :)

Also, thanks Micheal for taking the time and enthusiasm to keep this going.

Thanks IC :)

"Use a different locomotive next time though!"

I don't have much choice. The SD-9 was heading down to the
Loveland shop for repairs. :(

Oh, what did it do, blow a gasket or something?:hehe:
You know that locomoyive would actually look good in that same scene with maybe some of Cozmo's boxcars behind it you know two or three.
