Greetings.

This is the current frontier of motive power. Some argue that you're merely shifting combustion elsewhere to generate the required energy. Regardless, the inherent efficiency simply by not having to lug a fuel source around cannot be ignored. This week's theme is Electricity. A Busy Autumn Day on the all-electric London-Brighton Line

The famous Brighton Belle, no doubt taking well known actors and actresses up to London's West End for tonight's performance, passes other third rail electrics (EMUs) somewhere between Brighton and London on this pleasant Autumn day in the 1950s.

Southern Railway (SR) had fully electrified the Brighton Line (from London to Brighton and West Worthing) by 1933 using the third rail system that had been pioneered by the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) on its successful London Suburban routes.

Before the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LBSCR) and the LSWR were grouped into the Southern Railway, the LBSCR had previously used overhead electric traction in its London suburban lines.
