Screenshot of the Week: Ends 2-13

I think I should expand my comment posted above. I've seen some wonderful content and screenshots from all over the world posted on the Auran forum. This competition should be international. It's healthy. It's good for the Trainz community. It makes all of us try to raise the bar and move Trainz forward. So, those of you who may feel that this weekly screenshot competition is just a US thing...don't. Show us your creations...please. We all need that. Just my two cents worth...guilders...euros...pounds...lire...well, you know what I mean. :D

Cheers,
Fred

Looking at the quality instead of the quantity, this week seems to be at a very high level.
I'm really in trouble giving preferences...

Yes, Jim, you should start a thread about your route and post this kind of information there. That's what I have done. The weekly screenshot competition thread is not the proper place to directly promote your content or business...indirectly is okay. :D I mean...it's really just about screenshots, isn't it?

Cheers,
Fred

Zorronov,

From what I can tell, not every post has a screenshot....

My 2 cents. If I took the time to ask you a question about your route, and you provide detailed answers, I wouldn't view that as you "promoting your content or business." I agree that it's best to have a different route-specific thread to divert questions. That's why I said I'd start a new thread to not take up room here.

Regards,
JD

Well...first...I wouldn't provide detailed answers here. And, secondly, you're right, I shouldn't have called it "promoting your content or business", after all, it already has a name...it's called "hijacking a thread."

Cheers,
Fred

Whoa settle down a bit. It was my fault for asking. There is no need to get hostile. The map may have been a bit much, though it was nice to look at and study, but it wasn't really hijacking the thread if it was just a once and done answer to a question on my part. It wasn't like he just started talking about his route on here out of the blue and asking us to download it. Come on guys, this is just a fun little contest, no need to turn it into a fight because of one slightly off topic post, out of many off topic posts.

By the way, out of 45 posts, 25 of them have been screenshotless, and thus off topic. Just saying to try to diffuse the situation.

Well then, come on! We need some more screenies from across the pond! Don't sit around on your bums...post em! :D

Cheers,
Fred

P.S. I used to live in England by the way...;)

Hi Fred,

you are absolutely right. Now let's take my comment seriously (not that easy :hehe:)! I have always problems to show somethimg brand new here. Most of the possible screens are already shot on marvellous shots from others, that is my problem. BTW i am by no means the person who wants to disturb this screenshot contest... i enjoy all screenshots. And as earlier told: i have already found my this week candidate :)

The train returning to the mine on Totoket mountain with the empties after dumping it's load onto barges in the Long Island Sound.

I am just bumping this up to the front page because it somehow got horribly buried somewhere in the screenshots area and became hard to find.

Nice SW1500 by the way. Is that a Bicentenial unit?

I decree that all screen shot comps from here on in, should only contain screens from the creators of said routes. Kinda seems a little off to be taking shots of others routes, not mentioning it and then taking some sort of credit for it. There's my cat now thrown amongst the pigeons :D

Trying to get members here to obey anyones wishes is like trying to herd cats.:hehe:

This week's entries certainly takes this competition to a new level. Excellant shots everyone. I agree with Communist's decree and will only enter sceenshots of my own work whenever I get around to entering again.:o

But, Commie, no-one has insisted that we have to give the name of the route or the type of locomotive or whatever, and who it was created by, in any of our screenshots ever since the idea for this thread was first created last year. Maybe Michael Evans should stipulate this in next week's thread then and for the future, that all contributors to the screenshot of the week contest should give this information out....

And also don't forget that a few of us aren't able to create our own stuff, but, merely promote other Trainzer's hard work through our screenshots, for many, many others to download and enjoy.....Something that I've been doing quite freely for nearly 5 years and I 'aint going to stop now.

I totally agree with you. Everyone has their strong and weak points in Trainz. Some can create outstanding content but can't get past a blank empty baseboard. Some can make outstanding routes but can't create content worth beans. While others can't create content or routes but have a great eye for camera angles, lighting and being able to pick the best position in the scene for an exceptional screen shot. Is it fare to deprive the ones that are not so good at route building to show off their abilities?

Bill

I'm with you guys.

I'm kind of an example. I can't create content worth crap and all of my routes suck (I haven't uploaded anything to the DLS for that reason), which is why I mostly try to capture what other people make as best as I can.

Haven't been doing much of that recently because of other matters (work, school, and computer problems), but I should be posting more with time.

I will agree with communist that we should at least be giving some sort of credit to the original creators for their hard work.
