Hello Trainers --

I just downloaded Dinorius_Redundicus Kauai 2008 -- Although it was made this far back, the route is well constructed! I recommend this route, guys! You should check it out!

If I may, ask two questions, Ish ...

Which build of TRS are you running Kauai 2008?

and where did you get <kuid:-1:8008> ???

I suspect <kuid:-1:8008> was one of the built-in skies in Trainz 1.0 or 1.3, but I can't find it anywhere in TRS2004, TS2010, TANE, or the DLS. Probably just do the "delete missing assets" shuffle and see what happens.

I had Kuid:-1:8008 show in an old route I had.
I do not have this Route now but I believe this Kuid shows as Water in Config Text.
I just changed it to -1:6353 Calm water
Hope this is correct and helps you

OK, it's water, that makes sense.

How did you change <kuid:-1:8008> to <kuid:-1:6353>?

I think simply changing an entry in the kuid-table of a route doesn't work because the kuid-table is derived from one of the more basic files that define the route, like the .obs or .gnd file or whatever. And since <kuid:-1:8008> is an unknown kuid in later versions of Trainz, there's no way to use the Replace Assets tool to do it. I've forgotten how all this works!

This is getting interesting.

Of course, we can go the "delete missing assets" pathway but I like the idea of calm water.

I am wondering which version of TRS that our friend and well-wisher Ish is using for this route.

I'm wondering that also. I suspect it's not TANE because I tried installing the route from a saved CDP (the same one I uploaded to the DLS in 2008) but nothing shows up when you open the route - it's just default sky with no ground or scenery anywhere. That's due to N3V's changes to the internal format of the map files in TANE. Having gone through this BS with another '04 route recently, I know the answer is to install the original '04 CDP to an intermediate version of Trainz like TS2010 or maybe TS12, open and save the route from there and export it to CDP. Then import that CDP to TANE.

One other thing I can say is that I worked hard to ensure none of the dependencies of the original route came from external 3rd-party websites. All were on the DLS or built-in to TRS2004. That should make life a bit easier. But if N3V has obsoleted a basic thing like the built-in water from '04 and not made it available on the DLS, then that will be a concern. Perhaps the way around that is to do asset replacements in TS2010 or TS12 before importing to TANE.

I do wonder if it's worth all the effort to jump the hurdles that N3V have placed in our path. I mean, I was happy with the thing in 2008, but the choice and quality of scenery and ground textures back then was pretty limited compared to what we have now.

Hello Deane, Saieditor ...

The route download from the DLS straight into T12!

Deane, your route did not showed up in CMP+ of T12, so head over to the DLS, and clicked download, and it went through!

I notice the missing item, but the route opened without any problem! I haven't using the "Deleted Asset" button .... I hardly ever unless it's many objects.

Haven't tried installing into TANE, but I will and see what happens .... I would have done now, but TANE is install on a second PC. I'll do it tomorrow, and updated this thread with my results!

Deane, have you ever considered updating the route to today's features?
I know, your knees shake when you think about the length hours, etc! LOL

BTW. Too bad I can re-title this thread to: Kauai 2008 :'( (N3V should allow us to do this)

I've just sent a TANE (build 4.2) version of the Kauai route to the DLS - Kauai 2008 in TANE <kuid2:68213:100008:1>.

Minimal changes were made, just enough to get it into TANE. Hopefully available for download by about 9 April 2016.

Hey Deane, what is the route about? Is it long? Set in the Americas? Can you show us a map? Just wondering buddy.

Hi Dave.

This is from the Description;

"The whole Hawaiian island of Kauai is modelled here with a fictional standard gauge rail network added. There are also a number of aerial tracks for sight-seeing flights around the island. The DEM-based map is scaled to one third the original size to fit the island into a reasonable number of base boards. The original Kauai 2008 route (kuid:68213:100008) was developed using TRS2004-SP4. This updated version has only minimal changes to make it compatible with T:ANE. It uses no payware, and all assets are either built-in or from the Trainz Download Station."

I don't have a track map as such, but here's the mini-map view. In Trainz, the island is about 15 km in diameter. There are rail lines around the coastal plains (shown in lighter green) from Hanalei Bay in the north to Barking Sands in the west. I'm guessing that makes it about 35 km long from one end to the other. It's built with a mixture of passenger and freight in mind, plus there are loops of aerial track for sight-seeing flights over and around the island, and track for ships too.

In my Navy days spent almost a week in Kauai - beautiful island and great sightseeing- Kauai is home to the Grand Canyon of the pacific - waterfalls and some terrific surf as well.

It is a wonderful route. Even the 2008 session seems to work. I had to repair four or five assets, but now everything is complete and all the trains and planes are moving around while I write this. Thanks a lot.

I'm amazed the old session still works. I haven't run it for ages. My experience (when I first developed it) was that the AI trains run OK for a while but eventually end up in stand-off situations. Maybe the AI in T:ANE is more intelligent and less artificial than it used to be in TRS2004, but I wouldn't be surprised if the same issues still exist. Maybe you can design more reliable sessions than I could. Anyway, enjoy your time on Kaua'i.
