Route Help Please - Triggers

I am having an issue using triggers. Basically I have a simple oval with an inner loop, running 2 locos. I currently have a trigger setup to throw the switch to divert train A to the inner loop. Train A throws a second trigger to revert the junction back to the "main" line. This works for the first run....on the second approach the trigger fails to throw the switch to the inner loop.

I've been googl'in my butt off but have been bale to determine a resolution.

I know there are likely better, more efficient ways to attain the results, however I am trying to learn the basics of these functions to better understand "the big picture"...

Thanks in advance...

Might help to see a screenshot of the map or a diagram, along with what rules you're using. I never knew there was a trigger rule to control a switch. Is it possible you have a "trigger once" command checked on someplace?

Trigger Help

I have checked, the only mention of "trigger once' is in a trigger check rule. Based on your response - I have the eerie, unfortunately common, feeling that I am using triggers in the wrong way. I do not have a screenshot, but its a simple oval with a switch at the end, I attached a jpg for illustration.

I simply want train one to keep to the outside, will train 2 always engages the switch to take the "short route" red line

Thanks for your response....sorry...trainz NEWB here

Well, it's even more puzzling now - "additional track pieces" and "Included with train set", all the PC versions of Trainz that I have use splined track that bends whatever way you bend it. Is the mac version really that different?

Use trackmarks instead of triggers. Then do the "Navigate Trackmark Via" command in the driver setup.

G'day,

I think the pic used is one from a (Marklin??)model railway catalog, hence the "additional track pieces" indication.

Thanks Satyr

I did grab the pic off a site online, trainz runs horribly slow on my MacPro. I have started to use the trackmarks.....learning...thanks again. I did not think my explanation of the problem was sooo far off to confuse people.

trackmarks works pretty good, but I ran into some issue with double track splines. Apparently the tracks are not bi-directional - same with the stations. It makes it a little more tedious.

MacBook Pro - intel I5 2.4ghz 8gb ram
nvidia geforce 330m - 256 ram <<<<this seems to be the cause of the poor performance. Might be time to build a rig.....I am hooked :eek:on trainz !

Okay, so it's not that different. Question is still what rules are you using to control the switches with triggers? Navigate via trackmark works fine for what I do, spawning trains from portals every X minutes and sending them via various trackmarks to route them along to a destination portal, but for continuous running I've never tried them. As for the track directions, there are track direction markers and AI routing markers that can be used to make them stay off the eastbound track when they're westbound or whatever. Other question is have you used any signals on the route, that might help to space them out.
