Route Inspiration
You have to find what you like about Railroads in general. Is it narrow gauge, steam, history, the present, big huge old locomotives, modern locomotives, transit, trolleys...etc. What do you dream of when you dream about trains ? Once you find your favorites...you can get a tunnel vision on what you would like to reproduce in Trainz. You can change whatever you like...for example: make the PRR like it still survives to this day if you wanted. If you use a DEM you will be making a route foot by foot just like the prototype. If you are a freelance baseboard by baseboard creator...create the world like you would like it to be. Intraction between other people that share your similar particular interests, may help you stay the course. I now personally know alot of others who like the PRR, and their ideas and input helps me create. All through the many forums out there. Be creative, interact, and have fun.
Study a prototype RR in depth, for years. I visited the Altoona Model RR club, and the members there gave me all sorts of information, and sold me books ! Now my head is swimming in hundereds of trackcharts, and thousands of prototype photos. Study topographic USGS maps and try to recreate the old track arraingements. Find old photos of the RR and try to duplicate the RR scenes. Or make a RR route that is obserdly creative. Mars, and Moon routes are about as way out as you can go (way out). But some narrow gauge routes I have seen really knock me out, and create a logging RR as if it had a million trillion bucks, and zillions of feet of track, hundereds of switchs and trestles.
